Tips on making a CV in Finland

Post by Ellah » Mon Aug 15, 2011 1:12 am

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions about CV's please.

Mine is quite short and compact, I shortened it a bit when I did the English version, removed stuff like interests and some general babble about myself.

Do they want references in the CV? People with phone numbers they can talk to? Or written references? (I've heard in some countries list of references is not appreciated in CV's).

And any general tips just in case? :)

If you consider sending applications in Finland check these links out:

Scroll down the page in:

Also, if you are applying an IT related job it's always great to have an online portfolio page.

Thank you very much. My field is in Information Science, so a bit IT related. But what kind of online portfolio page, something independent or something like linkedin?

Have you written articles? Done research? Done something related to the job you are aiming for? Something the person(s) that think of hiring you would like to see?

That goes in the cover letter. I would only put it in the CV if the job application was some form (online or paper) which has no place to put a cover letter or reference information. Written references I would put on a separate piece of paper as an addendum.

LinkedIn is a good page to have, especially if you can get people to write recommendations for you.

Imho it doesn't matter that they are in a language that I don't know. I can see that you can produce text/articles/whatever that is good looking and you are proud of your work.
Of course that means you have to be proud of your work and the quality isn't iffy. :)
