Hi all
Me and my girlfriend are looking to move back to Finland (Myyrmäki area) my girlfriend is Finnish and won't find it hard to get a job, but I'm from the uk and speak no Finnish but I am learning, my question is how hard would it be for me to get a step on the job ladder, I have few qualifications mainly gcse's and a levels, I don't mind what job I do, just want something to get me going while I work on my Finnish and hopefully find something better..
Sorry if this has already been asked, but your help would be greatly appreciated,
Dan

Re: Finding work
Not hard and fast rules, but basically:
No Finnish skills + a skill with a demand = job
High level of Finnish skill + a skill with a demand = job
Low level of Finnish skill + a skill with a demand = job
High level of Finnish skill + no other skills = job
No Finnish skills + no other skills = stay where you are and learn basic Finnish and get more qualifications. If that fails, either persuade your gf to stay in the UK or change the gf.

Re: Finding work
Thanks for the reply,
even tho i don't have many qualifications, i have a lot of experience in the hotel (4 years as a Food and Beverage Manager) and electrical wholesale industry (5 Years as a Warehouse Manager)
i would only be looking for a basic job to start i.e. Cleaning, would i still struggle to find this with little finnish speaking skills?

Re: Finding work
Cleaning etc. will be targeted all who don't speak the local language -> more competition. But that hotel experience will help for sure. And with that I wouldn't be aiming at the crappiest cleaning position.Danielpage wrote:even tho i don't have many qualifications, i have a lot of experience in the hotel (4 years as a Food and Beverage Manager) and electrical wholesale industry (5 Years as a Warehouse Manager)

Finns love degrees and qualifications, but nothing beats experience (if you have the proper qualifications and degrees

How do I go about getting my hygiene pass?
Re: Finding work
pass the exam.
There are plenty of topics on this forum about this subject.
(which also means that there are many foreigners fishing in the same pool)

Best thing for you to do , so that you get a foot in the door would be to sign up with people like op team, there you would be able to work in hotels etc washing up ,glass collecting until you get better with Finnish . Where about a will you be living ? Helsinki vantaa espoo ?
