They are most likely checking your reliability based on your statement, e.g if you are giving accurate information about your whereabouts.
Border guard would not know about intra-Schengen borders, I doubt if they know about the part of the external border which is outside Finland.

you're quite lucky. I submitted my application around the same time and still waiting.
it was quite a surprise for me too. i was expecting it to be at least a year of waiting. i did submit however more than the usual requirement. i included the photocopy of the sale contract of the apartment i bought and private retirement plan. employment contract and employment certificate. detailed list of my travels which is quite long incl the trips i made to tallinn and tukholma. i was thinking that maybe it was because of age and financial stability. or i just got plain lucky.

ok, I got the decision today. Now, according to the paper, my permanent RP is not valid anymore. So in order to apply for passport, shall I go to Malmi or a visit to police station downtown is enough?

You cant apply passport in Malmi, its foreign permit stuff only.
According to police pages in Helsinki you can apply in
HELSINGIN POLIISILAITOS - Itäkeskuksen poliisiasema
HELSINGIN POLIISILAITOS - Kaartin poliisiasema
HELSINGIN POLIISILAITOS - Pasilan poliisiasema

So did you also apply in March of this year and get the decision now? If I knew that applying early is a disadvantage I wouldn't have applied, instead I have to observe the queue status every month with frustration. It seems they're fast tracking the new applications and just shelving the old ones.

Decision on new citizenship applications within half a year at best

The Finnish Immigration Service has begun the accelerated processing of new passport-holder citizenship applications received in 2011. Passport-holder applications are those submitted by people who hold a valid national passport.

At best, decisions on citizenship applications submitted this year can be made within six months, provided the Finnish Immigration Service receives applications from the police within the normal 2–3 months. The average processing time for citizenship applications has recently been about one year.
Purpose is to prevent new queues

The purpose of the accelerated procedure is to prevent new queues from forming. When the old queues, which are processed together with the new applications, have been cleared, the processing time of all applications will be shortened.

Those who consider applying for Finnish citizenship should wait until they fulfil the requirements – for period of residence and language skills, for example – before submitting their applications. If these requirements are not fulfilled, the decision is likely to be negative.

The goal is for decisions on passport-holder citizenship applications that were submitted before the end of June 2011 to be finalised by the end of the year.

Passport-holder applications that arrived earlier, divided as before into two queues: precise and explicit applications and other applications, will also be decided at the same time as the new passport-holder applications. The newest overview of the queues of citizenship applications is available at our website under Citizenship.
Applications of refugees and those with alien passports to be processed in the old order

The only new applications that will be processed under the accelerated procedure will be those from people who hold a valid national passport. The citizenship applications of refugees and those holding alien passports will be processed normally in the order in which they become pending, beginning with the oldest, because in these cases the identity of the applicant often requires clarification.

The processing situation concerning passport-holder citizenship applications pending in years other than 2011 will be updated at the end of each month in the Overview of the Queues of Citizenship Applications (the newest overview is available at our website under Citizenship).

Yeah onko I read that,,, it is really unfair to people who have been waiting so long and thought they we would get priority just to realize they're becoming lower priority to avoid new queues.

I have no idea how their criteria for application process works. I was worried about the list of my travels because I didn't mention my all travels within EU. On the other hand, I mentioned my travels out of EU. Also, I gave them all the information they needed including my past employed history with photocopies of contracts, bank statements, contract with YTK employment fund, rental contract, degree certificate. I also took all salary receipts of 8 years and the lady had  expression on her face, tax certificate, photocopy of latest tax card etc. Basically I made one helluva mess of papers on the counter  ...I needed to pay 180€ to taxman which I did 3 days before as well.

During my previous work, yes. For this recent work, no but I got the receipt in email so I just printed it.

Hi,

I have submitted my Finnish citizenship application to police in August 2010. I rang migri last week and they said they just received my application in August 2011 from Police. Its really strange it took so long and now they dont know how long its going to take to make decision :(.

I havent done anything bad in Finland and been working and paying taxes and been studying and lived here now almost 10 years. I wonder why the application stayed in police for year .... Now my A status expires in Feb and now thinking should i apply for permanent residency or wait for decision as if i receive positive in march or april next year then i just loose 400 Euro... :(

Does this can help to fasten the decision process ? Can anyone suddest me the what would be the best option ?
Thanks.

its a good thing it got delayed because now you can count six months and you get the decision. If Migri had received it last year then it would've been stuck in the queue and processed perhaps by the end of next year if not later since they're prioritizing new applications.

If you let your residence permit expire without having applied a new one, I would expect that to automatically
A) make you're illegally staying foreigner
B) interrupt your residence period in Finland, causing a rejection of the citizenship application when Migri finally considers it.

(BTW: current fee for residence permit application is 120€, not 400€)
