Mushrooms!

It is mushroom time in the forests, and this year is exceptionally good! So, for a true Finnish experience, grab a basket, put on your Nokian rubber boots, and head out into the forest. I went with my daughter yesterday, and we only went along a fairly busy path through the forest, and still we found a lot of really nice young boletes of different types (leave the old ones, they are usually too worm infested to be able to salvage anything), one chanterelle :), some funnel chanterelle, parasol mushrooms, and so much hedgehog mushroom in one single place that we just finally gave up on picking them all. We came home with a big basket full of mushrooms! Heck... I have been picking birch boletes in my own yard, never had them there before!

And, not for picking (poisonous!), but we saw also a lot of really pretty fly agaric. If you don't know mushrooms or just don't like eating mushrooms, just take a stroll through a forest patch to admire these really beatiful mushrooms!

And... again as a warning... don't pick mushrooms that you don't know. Don't pick mushrooms that you think is an edible mushroom in your own home country without checking first, it might not be the same mushroom here. Don't get lost! Stay on a path if you aren't used to walking in the forest (and finding your way out), and only go venture away from the path so much that you still can see it. Or just pick a forest patch and scrounge it through... you don't have to walk deep into a forest to find mushrooms, just any patch with a couple of trees will really do, just keep your eyes open! :) And bring a mobile phone with you, just in case.
