Passport, RP, marriage, name change..

Post by 1122334 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 7:26 pm

Hi, been doing some research on the topic but I cant find a specific solution to my problem, nor do I know which government official
to contact on this matter.. Can someone help me out? Here´s the pickle:

I married a Finn in August, changed my last name to his, and went to get my first RP.
We asked cops if we should apply with my new surname or with the one that´s in my current passport,
and they said to use the old one.

1 month later got the RP, with my maiden name.

I want a new passport with my new surname! What do I do? I am Russian, I have 2 passports, one that´s for travelling inside Russia
and the other for the rest of the world. Do I need to go to Russia to change my "european" passport, or can I do it here at the cops?
What about my RP then? How do I get my last name changed in that?

Thank you, kiitos :)

If you are changing the Russian passport you need to apply in Russia. If you are changing the other one you need to apply in whatever you got that one from. Basically, wherever you GOT the passport is where you have to go back and ask.

Asking here is a total waste of your time. Call up the government firm that give you your passport and ask them directly. Or you could quite easily call your Embassy and ask the same question. (Consulate is for foreign nationals seeking information on your country, not for citizens). Though they can also help out. Best place is to call your Embassy.

So either call your passport issuing office or your Embassy or both and work out what you need to do. As for changing your name, if you want a second residency permit in a year you HAVE TO update your passport. It's a prerequisite of getting a second permit, or you have to go back to using your old name.
