3D modeler looking for job

Post by chargr » Fri Oct 14, 2011 1:15 am

Hey. I'm 3D modeler from Estonia and looking for some opportunities to move to Finland. I'm mostly skilled with game modeling but can deal with high detail models also. I don't have a good portfolio (partly because of not so cool 3D job right now) so i would do some test works for free to get job.
Photoshop (I may be web designer also :) )
Modo (can learn another app when needed)
Zbrush

Maybe this post could help...model the characters :lightbulb: instead of drawing them...
Good Luck :D

Tnx. Seems interesting but not so good standing point for moving to Finland. :(
I'll need some long term job with stable income. Like we all do :D

I hope that you are not going to potential employers with this text. You are highlighting all your negative points (in the eyes of a potential employer)...
- you highlight you are a foreigner
- you highlight you are not living here at the moment
- you say you do not have a good portfolio
- you say you do not have a cool job
- you show you are desperate, offering free work
- you say you might also be a web designer

You should try and reword everything based on you strengths, and not on your weaknesses. Totally honesty might be good in normal life, but in a job application you have to sell yourself.

As a quick effort - more for making my point than actually thinking about the text I would use- , what about the following version of the same words:

I am an experienced 3D modeller and I am looking to further my career in modelling or web design. I'm skilled with game modelling as well as high detail models. I am keen to make the next step in my career, and am looking for an opportunity to get my foot in the door of a well respected company like yours, and would be willing to discuss ways how to accomplish this. I am experienced in modelling software, especially Photoshop, MODO and Zbrush, and I am also very good at learning new applications.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

Do you have any game titles you have worked on? That's what gaming companies are looking for. If not (or even if you do), make at least an online portfolio with some of your work.

Here is a list of the companies working in the gaming industry in Finland (well, not all of them, I can see at least some of the smaller startups are missing... but most are listed). Check out their web pages, quite a lot of them are hiring. A lot of them also have a link or contact information for where to send any open applications.

Oh, and definitely what Mölkky-Fan said!
