Waiting period for an answer from embassy

My dad is Finnish and I would like to apply for residency. Does anyone know how long would it take to hear back from Finnish government for an American citizen? Thanks.

Please clarify a bit the situation. Yo you say your dad is (or was) Finnish (citizen)? In order to know your status and the possible grounds to apply residence permit of citizenship on would need to know when you were born, were your parents married at the time and had your father acquired US (or any other) citizenship by that date.
