being Pregnant without Social Security Number - Kela Card

Post by arzuhan80 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:24 pm

Hellooo ,

Me and my husband moved to Helsinki 1 month ago,
I am pregnant (3.5 month) - I am a housewife and have a Diplomatic ID
We are from a non EU Country -
I read lot of topics about having a baby without Kela Card but I am still not sure about this following issues,
Please if you can help me - I would be very happy

1: Some friends spoke about to pay the hospital 3500 Euro in advance - which hospital is that ?
ıs it only for EU Country citizens
2: We are living in Helsinki City Center - Which Clinic or Health Center can I visit for my monthly controls ?
I checked some clinics - private one but they told me only to see the doctor is 100 Euro :(( and the ultrasound is 250 Euro
3: can you advice me a nice but also cheap clinic please ?
4: There was one comment abput the maternity grant package - is this only for Kela Card owners ??
5: Do you know any pregnancy yoga places ?? or private - public courses for pregnant ladies?

Thank you very much for your help :))

All Helsinki area hospitals, and all non-KELA insured patients.

at least one option for nurse level visits is this one:

4: There was one comment abput the maternity grant package - is this only for Kela Card owners ??
Yes

My husband came to Finland 1 months ago and me I arrived 1 week ago. As we are Diplomats, my husband had been posted to Finland to work here.
I knew that I was pregnant before I came here - I had my first controls in my country -
Actually I am really happy to be here - but - yes but I didn`t know that it will be so expensive to have a child here :(
But I still want to have my baby here - but I try to find the best solution :) both material and moral :)
(Thanks again)

Child labour costs in HUS anything between 859e to 8123e, if i read their "price list" correctly they bill average price what is from 1460e for problem free normal labour to 4240e for complicated caesarean section. I could be wrong tho.
I dont know exactly what all this price includes and do notice that price is "what it really costs" so no profits to them. Price lists can be found in http://www.hus.fi/default.asp?path=1,28 ... 3018,30488
Best way is of course ask from them directly, call for example kätilöopisto

About kela maternity package, its free for ones who are entitled to finnish social security but if you want you can buy it for 274,15e plus the delivery. More info in http://www.kela.fi/in/internet/english. ... enDocument There is pictures about what is in that package in http://www.kela.fi/in/internet/english. ... enDocument

My first thought when I read your posts was doesn't your employer/government provide you with a private health insurance that would cover your maternity care and birthing costs in Finland?

The estimated average when I asked that directly from responsible person at HUS a couple of years ago was about 2000 € when no section is needed and about 3500€ with section (your document is newer, I'm just doubtful things would have come cheaper in practice). That would have been including about 200e for one doctor check up at the maternity hospital a few weeks before the due time and the typical few days at the hospital after labour. At least I would recommend the OP to get a health insurance for the unborn baby. I must say I thought diplomats have better perks than this.

:))) Yes that`s the only thing you get a blue CD plate - but as they talled it depends on which countries diplomat you are ://
American- Canada - Australia and EU countries have a better system - they have been arranged for everything as well as their health issues and social

I visited today the Women`s hospital - and ask them for information as you advised me
If their is no problem the birth will cost 2000 at least ( I hope so )

The only thing is I think I need to find a clinic for my controls :)

Thanks everybody for expiriences and oppinions

I am a European diplomatic spouse here and have been working for 2 years in Finland paying tax, have kela card but can still not use the health clinic or neuvola as I have to be here permanently. Rules are quite complicated. Im 5 months pregnant and have to go to private clinic for all checkups and it is not cheap. We have spent around 1800 this far (700 because of complications).
Does your husband have health insurance through his work that might cover some of the costs?

We still get parking fines and still have to pay them if you are from a small 'insignificant' country.

Did you earn your KELA card before diplomatic affiliation (and it would not be in force now, diplomats might have their own rules) or what - because certainly the general rule is that if you get approved into the national social security system (aka 'asumisperusteinen sosiaaliturva'), you get the card are elligble to use public health care with same terms as native born citizens?

I thought the rule is that the Finnish officials have no way of collecting from diplomats, and depends on the policy set presumably by the foreign ministry (or ambassador) of the country. Americans I recall, park poorly, but almost always pay their bills.
