Hi Ronald, the problem with importing cars is that you need to test EACH AND EVERY imported car with the famous 'moose roll test'.

This is where you take a moose and ROLL THE MOOSE OVER THE CAR, to show that any wild life you hit, will not hurt the animal, and the animal will live to see another day. This is similar to the Australian 'kangaroo roll test', except that you are allowed to use a small kangaroo. There is no such exception in Finnish import law. You must use a full sized adult moose and it must be rolled over the FULL LENGTH of the vehicle.

As you can see below, the result is that the car generally gets so badly damaged, as to make importing cars a fairly futile venture - otherwise we would all be doing it.

Hello Ronald

tax is depends to year of car, km, gasoline type (benzin, diesel, etc), sdan or Hb etc.

you can make aproximetly calculation from www.ottoauto.de and you can estimate how much will be the tax.

as a additional info for you that tax is calculating according to avarage car price in finnish market.
it means that you can find a bmw coupe with 3500 eur in germany and finnish customs will calculate it according to avarage prices in finland
if that bmw's avarage asking price is 15000 eur in finland you will pay around 5-6000 tax (%30-40)

regards
mert

You want to calculate tax on the car... thus you need cartaxcalculator, autoverolaskuri.

Note that many finnish importers sell the cars tax-free and get the buyer to do the paperwork.

Mook, what exactly do you mean mean "do the paper work"?

1) You mean that the finnish clients will definetely pay this tax at the final, but they must do all paper work on their own after they bought a car from importer??

2) Do the car tax depends on who sold the car to the finnish person, was it a company, or was it a private person? To better undestand what am i talking about, for axample: a finnish citizen went for example to Estonia, bouhgt a car, putted the transit numbers and going back to Helsinki. After return, at the border, while calculating the tax for a car, he will be asked to show a payslip, showing how much did he payed for a car (i've heard that this is required... or i'm wrong?), but how did he show the payslip if the car was bought from the private person?? Or the car price won't make any sense to calculate the TAX?

1)

The tax is based on the value of the car in Finland, NOT what someone paid for it abroad.

To get the car into Finnish plates the buyer has to pay the car tax which is derived from the price of an equivalent car in Finland, you can get a car free and you still pay your ass off in tax. Then with the paid tax slip, the cars papers including the euro CoC certificate they do the "import registration" which is a stringent MOT. Its not that complicated, but as for the car price & car tax on top it is not a "cheap" car necessarily.

Ok, thank you guys for information. I just want to figure out, is there any sense for finnish citizen to buy a car from Estonia. I'm importing cars from Germany to Estonia. So i thought, can i make some even a little profit, selling my cars to Finnish people too?? I was compairing my prices with an average prices for similar cars on nettiauto.com. My calculations are showing, that some marks and models i can offer to finnish citizens on 1000-2000eur cheaper(for cars cost about 10000 and more), even if they'll pay a tax 30-40% at finnish border. Plus, I'll be ready to pay all the spendings for overregistering in Estonia (including: transfer client to see the car, transit plates and even a back ticket to Helsinki with a car). Can please anyone who lives in Finland comment my idea, will someone in Finland be interested in such services, just your personal opinions. I'm seriously thinking about make this idea happen. Thank You!

I know a dude that jobbed cars from Est to Fin, mainly as he lived there and knew people here. And it was a hobby for him, although afaik he did get profit. So certainly doable. I could imagine myself buying car from there. Kinda like a light version from shopping trip to germany.

I was in South Estonia in Valga a few years back looking at a car to buy with a mate. The logistics is easier than going to Germany thats for sure.
