Finding Jobs?
Finding Jobs?
Hi
I wanna know if finding a job in Finland is easy or hard?
I mean for a student who just knows English and not Finnish or any other languages like this, is there a job which can help her to live and study in Finland?
And, any kind of job for a 20 year-old girl
Thanks

Re: Finding Jobs?
If you would have browsed the forum a little bit, you would have discovered that finding a job without Finnish skills is very, very difficult. Almost every other topic is from a foreigner struggling to find work.
So for you, without Finnish and no degree yet, I would say next to impossible.I wanna know if finding a job in Finland is easy or hard?

Re: Finding Jobs?
Its hard. Very hard. Even harder if you dont have a valuable skill that many do not have, or if you do not have a Finnish partner/spouse. Theres lots of foreigners looking for work in Finland so you are not the only one. That being said...it doesnt mean its impossible. It just aint easy by any means for most.

Re: Finding Jobs?
How about a little C++ and computer repairing and software and programs stuff?
Also, if i get to Finland and study IT, i have money to pay for one year, after that, i must work, would it be easier to find a job after 1 year?

Many IT students already offer that service. It earns them an extra pizza topping, but it is not enough to live on.frnsh wrote:How about a little C++ and computer repairing and software and programs stuff?
Do you think you can study IT and learn Finnish at the same time? And then reach near fluency level in one year?would it be easier to find a job after 1 year?

Is it hard to learn Finnish at the same time?rinso wrote: Many IT students already offer that service. It earns them an extra pizza topping, but it is not enough to live on.

I guess i can handle it, and if i did, it would be a lot easier to find a job?
btw, my first choice is Turku, then Oulu, Vassa and Helsinky
Re: Finding Jobs?
If you want to reach near fluency in one year next to a full time study, I would say it's impossible.frnsh wrote: Is it hard to learn Finnish at the same time?
I guess not unless you're a language wizard. How many other language not related to your mother tongue do you speak?I guess i can handle it,
It would be easier, but not a lot. You would get past the receptionist but you still have to compete with all the Finnish students. Unless you have some special skills that they don't have, they are the favourite choice.and if i did, it would be a lot easier to find a job?

Great!
So in this case, lots of students who don't have the money for their expenses, get back to their countries, right?
About the language u said, other than my mother's language, i know English well, and another language which i never talked but i know a little how, i guess i'm good at learning languages,
I thought if i learn Finnish just enough to communicate, i can find a job anywhere, doing anything, very usual jobs

Students who cant show that they have means to support themself dont get in in first place.frnsh wrote:Great!

And whats that babble about languages, you said you know only english. Dont change your story or lie if you want proper answers.
And to learn finnish "just enough to communicate" probably takes way more than year, depends of course.

Just enough to communicate means you can understand them when they say; "Sorry, but the position is already filled."frnsh wrote:I thought if i learn Finnish just enough to communicate, i can find a job anywhere, doing anything, very usual jobs

Re: Finding Jobs?
Ok as a girl who moved here on her own at 19 and managed to get a job and learn the language to near fluency in a year it is possible, but not easy. Restaurants will take you, you can also au-pair or be a live in child carer. You just have to learn the language as soon as possible.
Re: Finding Jobs?
Possible for some, others find foreign languages much harder in general, and it's fairly safe to say Finnish will be for most considerably harder than what they have earlier possibly studied as adults or youths.not_finnished wrote: learn the language to near fluency in a year it is possible, but not easy.
Re: Finding Jobs?
It depends quite a lot, however in general it would not be easy at all... I knew some guys who got a "normal" job (not relating to their studies) in the first month in Finland... However later on they end up stuck in that job and did very badly in their school (or maybe it was their intention from beginning already
