Nyt Barshop aikoo Daily Mailin mukaan luopua ketunkarvasta ja käyttää tekokarvaa, koska eläintensuojelujärjestö PETAn organisoima kampanja on saanut ihmiset nousemaan tämän tyyppistä turkisten käyttöä vastaan.

The joke here, of course, is a play on the word, "foxy"....an attractive woman....but to speakers of languages other than English, the whole thing must seem just plain weird.

I see that one use of "fox"/kettu is the same as in English....maybe it comes originally from Aesop's Fables or something...a "cunning person" ...also know as a "fox" in English can be called kettu in Finnish...

Probably an endless list of them... just as there are many words and expressions for the less attractive ones. ;)

Going with the animal theme, foxy ladies are sometimes called kissa or even kuuma kissa in colloquial Finnish.

There’s also the adjective/noun hottis... you will never guess where that one comes from!

There is a long-running German police/detective show called Der Alte. (See here and here as well.) The series has run for three decades and is on its third main character now since the actors for the two previous detectives have already retired or died.

When it was first shown on Finnish TV — with the original cast and the first detective — they translated the title as Vanha kettu, literally “The Old Fox”, a reference to the cunning ways how the experienced main detective character could solve his cases. But I see the English Wikipedia page on that show also translates it as “The Old Fox” even though the original German title makes no reference to foxes...

When the first detective died (the actor playing him retired) and was replaced with the second one — who was obviously younger than him — they changed the Finnish title simply to Kettu, dropping the adjective vanha.
