Post office's weird delivery

Post by hostmax » Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:06 pm

Hi,

Have you experienced any kind of huge delay from the post office ?

My friend is sending me a small package from Jyväskylä to Espoo... I suppose that it should take less than a week for the package to arrive (I got my eBay order within 1 week anyway)... However, it has been almost 3 weeks but I still found nothing yet... Has any of you experienced the same kind of thing ? And in this case, what should I do to retrieve the lost package ? (we contacted both post office but they just said that they will try to find something out... no promise or anything like that)....

Does your friend have a tracking code (I at least assume nowadays all packages should have one). What does he get as a result if he feeds it in to the box here on the top right corner? http://www.posti.fi/english/

Unfortunately, he does not keep the receipt anymore :( I thought that Posti could retrieve the tracking ID by using sender/recipient info, however they couldn't ... Anyway, if it did not arrive tomorrow, can I "forget" about it already ?

Certainly something unexpected has happened. I would not venture to guess if some employee will still notice it on a shelf of some wrong post office (and if so, when). Usually it should take a day or two for a domestic package to arrive.

I am expecting books from Amazon and they are taking MUCH MUCH longer than they usually do. First of all I blamed the weather but now I think it might be something to do with the industrial disputes at the airports in Germany. Most of Amazon's stuff seems to arrive here via .de

Is it just parcels?
I am expecting a few more normal deliveries and are not getting anything - does Posti refuse to deliver if for instance the snow ploughers have createed mounds that make it impossible to deliver without getting out of their van?

Noticed in the summer what lengths that they would go to to avoid leaving the car!

It's nothing to do with Posti. The post is delivered by private companies usually Itella.

As I said in another thread in case you missed it:
Kutittaa wrote:Post offices in Finland are like the blind leading the blind. I never said Posti was any good, but if you go cheaper you risk further problems.

I've had numerous problems with items disappearing even on tracking. Most of my issues never even made it to Helsinki before they could go overseas. After I was out of pocket for 50€ I started getting tracking and minor insurance.
I̶f I can find any way to insult someone, believe me I will.

Yep, Itella is new "fancy" name of posti. I wouldnt mind if posti is still named posti etc, i dont like this at all :(
What i like is that even childrens talk about posti when they mean itella, eat that "fancypants". Last i heard was 2 about 10y old pondering where is nearest "postikonttori" In here last post office was shut down ages ago. When i told them that where they can post their stuff they were like  but thats not posti.

Well whatever they are called - does the service tend to deteriorate in the winter and could they refuse to deliver if there is not as easy access to postboxes? The usable width of our street has narrowed so it may be difficult to deliver by the usual method of sticking arm out of the postvan....

Well... my other posts keep coming frequently without delay :) So I guess I have no luck with this "parcel" (actually it is more like a big letter :( )

Interesting thanks
But what does this mean in practice? - our road has narrowed by about 1m as a result of a single snow plough going down it and depositing at each side. This means that there is a "lateral morraine" of snow at the side of the road along its length. Not strange - think 1000's of roads are the same. As it is so hemmed in there would be no way to move the snow elswhere. I have made sure my letterbox is clear so you can stand in front of it and open it / post into it. However can a postman say that this is not unrestricted access - he probably would struggle to get his car near enough.

Do postmen still carry swords for use in case of robbery or complaint?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
