car insurance - car ownership

Post by zastler » Mon Mar 19, 2012 1:04 pm

Hi,

I am wondering if my partner can insure my car in his name? We are not married and I've been a named driver on his policy in the UK but the car is in my name. He earned the no claims discount!

Thanks a lot!!

So, does the Finnish insurance company then pay any attention to the UK no-claims or not is the first question. Usually, "young men" have higher insurance premiums due to their reckless driving statistics. Basically, to insure a car you need to have your name in the title, one way is to have the person set down as "haltija" which doesn't mean a leperchaun but "the one in possession", so all insurance/parking ticket etc.get paid primarily by them rather than the owner. Most often this is done say with cars on leasing or cars given as guarantee for a loan.
