HOW TO GET FINNISH LICENCE PLATE

Hi all,
I'm moving to Finland and I'm considering to change my car's register-plate and insurance into Finnish.

Does anybody know how much would that cost, and how to calculate annual taxes for Finnish cars? (mine happens to be diesel too, so I already know i need to add an extra tax according to the vehicle's weight).

Hi,

I've imported my car from italy last year and overall it's quite a time consuming process. First of all you have to go to the customs office, tulli. Consider that if you are moving here permanently you don't have to pay import tax that is quite expensive, e.g. for my '04 peugeot it would have been around 2500 euro! Keep in mind that to avoid this tax the car has to be registered on your name and you must be the owner since at least 6 month prior entering the finnish border. You should also provide a proof of when you moved to Finland, e.g. the ferry ticket. After you have the papers from tulli you can get the insurance and finally ask for a temporary license plate. Then tree months later you have to make the inspection and eventually get your license plate. This whole process costs around 3-400 euro. You should also provide a proof of when you moved to Finland, e.g. the ferry ticket.

It helps if you go strait to the Tuli office before leaving the ferry area.
