I am French and applying for Residence permit - Help

Post by manulaudic » Fri Apr 13, 2012 1:59 pm

Hello everybody,

First of all, thank you for reading my post !

I am from France and i am moving to Finland because of work.
I have also been living with my Finnish girlfriend for more than 2 years, but it's something hard to prove because we were then in america.
I am a musician and i signed with a record company here in Finland. - I signed an Artistic record deal.

The police requests a working contract, though my employer cannot give me one as my agreement with him is "Artist Contract".
In fact the amount of money cannot be established because it varies every month. Though the contract i have signed shows that i have a contract for more than a year.

I am asking, if anyone in my position, know of a form that my employer could fill to prove to the police that I HAVE TO stay in Finland for more than a year.
I want to be able to pay my taxes here :)

I hope some of you might help me!

Kiitos,
M

Well, if you are an EU citizen they can't really throw you out, you can live here as long as you can support yourself but you will be outside the system with regards health and social security. Have you thought about setting yourself up as a sole trader (toiminimi) which would give you self-employed status (un peu comme un auto-entrepreneur en France)? Once you have your business ID (Y-tunnus) and your "contract" from the recording company, the police might be more willing to listen.

That is a catch 22. You need to be in the system to register yourself as a TMI.

No you do not.

You have to be "a natural person resident in the European Economic Area (EEA) (...) may carry out a legal trade complying with proper practice in Finland".
(Holopainen: Establishing and Doing Business in FInland)

If you do not have a personal Finnish ID number, you can enter your date of birth in the Henkilötunnus field on the Y3 form at www.prh.fi

Thank you for all your answers.

The toiminimi might be a very good idea. I was planning on doing it after i get me social security number as it makes sense with my type of work !

Though, even though i can stay here as long as i can i guess i have to register myself at Maistraatti right?

It's quite difficult to get things in order, i've been calling many differents places in Finland and don't seem to agree with each others :)

I will look closely into the Toiminimi thing.
If anyone has another idea, a form my employer could fill, let me know !

Kiitos
