Just wondering how does it go if one has a fixed time contract, and you leave on maternity leave before it ends. I had understood the contract would have to be extended until the end of your maternity leave, but apparently I was wrong.
I went on maternity leave 3 months before my contract ended. They had told me in HR my contract would be extended until the end of my maternity leave. It is not sure I would come back to work there, that would've been my supervisor's decision, but still my contract wouldn't end during my maternity leave. Now they tell me my contract ended when it was supposed to end, 3 months after I started my leave. I have been applying for new jobs and I have in my CV I am still hired by my employer (or now former employer), because that's what they originally told me!
Anyone knows what the law says about this case? Thanks.
End of contract during maternity leave
Re: End of contract during maternity leave
Oh, they told me my project ended so they ended my contract when it was supposed to end.
Re: End of contract during maternity leave
There is no automatic extension. Being on maternity leave is not a valid reason not to extend contract, if because of continuation of the work it would otherwise be extended, but this does not seem to be the case here.
So apart from giving you false information initially I don't see anything improper would have happened. Make new CVs with the correct information, if somebody asks about the old ones, I don't see why referring it as an honest mistake would cause problems.
