Graduate Systems (Not IT-systems) Engineer Looking for work

Post by Krum » Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:32 am

Hyvää Päivää,

My Name is Ashley (male to avoid confusion), 25 years old, This is my 2nd time in Finland and I am currently working as a Snowboard/Ski Instructor at Ruka Ski School here in Ruka, Kuusamo. I am looking for a Graduate Engineering Job (be it Civil, Electrical, Mechantronic, Materials, Mechanics, Structural, possibly HVAC) or Drafters Position beginning sometime in from any time now with 1 weeks notice.

I have a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with Honours from the Australian National University where I majored in Mechanical and & Material Systems, Electrical Systems & Mechatronic Systems so I have quite a diverse range of knowledge. I also am well experienced in AutoCAD (also some use of Civil 3D) and have experience in Solid Works & Pro Engineer. I have approximately 1.5 years of experience as and Civil Draftsman/Engineer at Northrop Consulting Engineers. And My Finnish is somewhere around a Basic to Intermediate Level, at least in writing and reading. I would say Level B1 on the CEFR chart.

I have come from Australia this time on a sponsored work visa, which will expire late this month (April 2012)

If you would like to see my CV/Resume please e-mail me on krummus@gmail.com

Thanks for reading my Post

Thought I would bump my post and add at the moment, I'm interested in working any full-time job regardless of the hours.

As you might have noticed the work situation is fairly dire if your langauge skills are not excellent. If you want to teach sking or snowboarding then your only hope is to find a resort were you get some Brits or other non-finns. I has a quick look for holidays to Finland from UK and Yllas and Levi came up. If your serious about the winter sports teaching you need to think about moving in that direction. I taught snowboarding in Canada and got the job because l pestered the ski school until one day they had a vacancy - l got absolutely no reply to cv's etc.....your need to talk to people.

good luck and enjoy your time here.

Thankyou Allan for your reply,

And Yes, I've pretty much contacted every resort in Finland, and so far I know that I can sit an admittance test at Ruka and work there, because they seem to get a few UK tourists coming through, but for me this isnt enough for me to sustain myself, so I will hopefully be doing this after my first 3 months in Helsinki. For now I am looking for something in Helsinki so that I can build some further knowledge of the language itself. Vuokatti was another resort that got back to me but they were only interested if I could speak finnish or russian as well, which is fair enough, but they were ready for a phone interview as well.

Just bumping my Post, to get some increased interest.
I have edited my first post quite a bit.

In general, I am now living in Ruka, Kuusamo working as a freelance snowboard instructor and part-time waiter at a swiss restaurant. I am now looking for some work from the 7th of May or if not later, preferebly something in the Engineering field.

Paljon Kiitoksia

of course willing to move for the new job. I really don´t think Kuusamo has much to offer me as a place to live, haha.
I would possibly take any job to stay in Finland for now. Really depends on what is offered, as long as it is lined up ready to go. I do have a UK visa, but I have to go there to get a job as they mostly won´t even look at my application until I arrive. But since they speak English there, I won´t have such trouble finding work.

What did you have in mind?
