Cheap baby stuff in Helsinki

Post by ellyavis » Wed May 09, 2012 12:18 pm

Hi,

I am a six months pregnant student living in Helsinki. I'm currently considering where and how to buy all the baby stuff that is needed. I was thinking of ordering some of them online from Germany, but I am interested also in finding some things for the baby in Helsinki, if I can find them cheaper. I am mostly interested in finding a crib/baby bed, changing table, small furniture for the baby, but also bedding stuff (does anyone know of 4 seasons quilts for babies here?), and possibly a good stroller (I was thinking of ordering from ABC Design from Germany, but if I can get something as good cheaper, why not :) ). I've checked Valtteri and Kierrätyskeskus, but I could mostly find clothes there only.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any useful advice or information!

Elly

Hi Elly,

The Kierratykeskus on Kylasaarenkatu has cots - they're hidden away upstairs in the furniture section at one end.

I've found www.tori.fi, a website where people sell second hand goods, very useful - we found a cot and a rocking chair through it. There are some bargains on it but some of the items are definitely overpriced so bear that in mind, though it's always worth bargaining!

www.huuto.net may also be useful. I haven't bought anything through it yet but it's similar to ebay, though without the payment protection for buyers. Again, some of the items are overpriced.

Hi hayg,

Thanks a lot for your reply! I knew of huuto.net, did't know tori, so I'll try there as well. On huuto I had difficulties because everything is in Finnish, and for auctions, for example, I had to register, which I don't know how to do  . But I'll give it another try, there can be good things there, it's true. Thanks!

Flea markets organized by local MLL chapters can be very good. Mostly clothes and toys, but some bigger stuff as well. Most of the organized in early spring and then in autumn.

Hei Elly,
you could find some secondhand things for babies at http://www.vauva.fi/ilmoitukset/selaa. I know it's all in finnish, but I use the google translator...
Are you from germany? Then you could register at www.saksalaiset.fi, there is also a forum for selling/searching. I ordered the most baby things from www.amazon.de, they have nearly everthing for babies and the shipping costs are very low.

Viele Grüße und alles Gute :-)
Eva

Hi,

Thank you for your replies. I tried the links you've sent and could actually find some interesting and good things!

I am not from Germany, but I do speak German :) , so I was able to and did visit the suggested German pages, too.

So I have already found some of the stuff we need, but of course, we still need a lot, so if anyone has further ideas, I'd appreciate those, too. But these which all of you have suggested, have also been very helpful, thank you!
