It would be really, really nice to read how (or even if) someone from the U.S. moved to Finland and also read their opinions on what the culture is like relative to American culture. There's a few interesting positions open in Helsinki in my industry, and if Finland is appealing enough, I'd like to take a crack at working and living there

Elaine Ashton used to keep a blog called Axis of Ævil (now defunct), where she, among other things, described her and her Finnish husband moving to Finland and her impressions on the various cultural things she encountered. She often gave quite nice in-depth overviews about various matters.

Due to sudden work-related changes, the couple moved back to the U.S. some years after that, but she wrote quite a number of blog entries while it lasted.

Even though the original site is no longer up, you can still read an archived copy of it on archive.org (The Wayback Machine). The journey starts at around this entry. You can work your way towards the more recent entries and follow her experience chronologically all the way to the date they move out of the country again.
