Olkiluoto Scottish Electrician

Hi,

I am looking to move to Finland with my family 2013.

This hinges on getting work as an Electrician in the South West region of Finland. I have been pinning hopes on the power station Olkiluoto phase 3 and up and coming phase 4 providing an employment opportunity. I would be grateful for any help & advise to finding and securing a position prior to coming over from Scotland.

I worked at the OL3 construction site last year (although not as an electrician). I found the job through recruiting companies operating in Pori and Rauma (larger cities close to Eurajoki). In my opinion your best bet would be to send an open application to the likes of: ManPower, Enersense, Adecco, ISS, and any other large recruiting firms that deal with the subcontractors at the erection area. These companies have direct contact with the HR reps responsible for hiring new staff on site. As I recall, the biggest subcontractor involved in electrics was Elektrobudowa (a Polish company), but there are likely others (I wasn't dealing with the electrical systems).

OL3 is a great place to work if you are interested in working with other nationalities, but be warned that there is a reason why there have been so many problems and delays with the new reactor: the complex network of leadership and organization is at its best times redundant, if not completely maddening. Be prepared to be frustrated with the constant changes in regulations and protocols (which seem to occur on an almost weekly basis). Good news: more delays means more work for everyone!

I suppose that finding housing accomodations in the Olkiluoto area is rather difficult and probably expensive.

Shipwreck-It was good to get a feel for the mood at the OL3 construction site. My main reason for decision to chase employment within OL3-4 was that I do not speak Finnish and was aware that the site housed contractors from multi nationalities. I will make sure to send my resume to the recruitment agencys you listed hopefully getting a bite when the time is right.

Cory-thanks for that, visited Rauma with my family 2008 beautiful town.

Since I last posted on 15th May I sent of my CV to more than 12 agencys and only recieved one confirmation email responce. Is this typical etiqette as I would normally have expected to recieve an acknowledgement mail.

Hello mate

Im working on OL3 now as Site Manager for Siemens carrying out the Fire alarm installation, I got here in June so still finding my feet. You are better off going for a Management or Supervisory role as being English speaking is a big plus.
All sparks on site are from Poland and you can bet that their hourly rate is well below the average.

I would try for a place in Pori which is about 45mins away and not a bad place.

Speak to Enersense in Pori for any roles, update your CV to state supervisory or Management level.
