By evidence given - usually not much.hypocrisy wrote: But it seems like a few people here THINK they know whats going on inside someones head.
Of course not if shes moved abroad; but that really doesn't play a part if shes a citizen, except the domiciled part which may or may not have some hoops and whistles with KELA if she cannot get employed right away. Residence in the country and residence in a county are two different things totally, so the latter should be referred better as being domiciled - and that is what the KELA &ce. depend upon.I know what I have to do,just wanted to ask a question about if my wife would be considered a current resident or not.
Maybe because you are just repeating endlessly the same question wishing for an answer you want to hear? But im glad to see im judged here as an idiot.

"Or can we still get my permit and both of us go back together" means getting my permit while Im here then going to Finland together.I don't really know how that part baffles you."GO BACK TOGETHER"

Re: Question about current residents
In my post "Moving to Finland" I asked if I needed to get a resident permit before I get to Finland and would I qualify for benefits etc...Then I was told my wife(by private e-mail may not be considered a current resident and it could affect us),so In my post "question about current resident"I asked if that would inhibit me from getting my permit, since im not "schooled" in finnish immigration laws like you.I dont quite see how that is the same question that you say I keep re-asking.

Re: Question about current residents
OK, so your wifes current residency has nothing to do with your resident permit - thats a citizenship question totally. If you have married in the US they just want to see the paperwork. Being a "current resident", i.e. domiciled in Finland, as in "having residence in a county" in Finland effects KELA and benefits and jurisdiction and isn't depending on citizenship. The "being domiciled in Finland" is actually by far an easier process if you have your RP sticker in your passport so then both of you do the process together when you come in - you're entitled for the integration programme from day 1 and if your wife gets a job then her getting back on KELA is just a few papers filled. Peaches and cream.
The warnings here are for if you just show up as in with no paperwork as a lot of people who "think" do, you're just a groupie while the wife does her process and then when you finally get your RP you need to go through the same process again - meanwhile you're just a tourist with no rights for anything else but what the tourists do. Peaches are green fuzzy and cream curdles. The "system" is actually designed for people to apply their residence permits from abroad - or wait abroad while the person in Finland applies for the RP for the spouse - its only a recent development the non-EU spouse of a citizen can enter the country during the process but it has its drawbacks especially due to the silly processing times. I was wondering where the idea of being a current resident came from - but it dawned to me of course if you are non-Finnish citizen residing on a RP then you need to be a current resident indeed to bring in a spouse.

hypocrisy wrote:Nothing personal towards you Violette and thanks for your input. But it seems like a few people here THINK they know whats going on inside someones head. I don't know how it is you think Im looking for an easy answer....just the right answer, and advice.I also have sent e-mails to the embassy etc...and they are slow to answer so I figured (and figured wrong) that i could ask a few questions here.
I know its going to be difficult moving to a different country, but i also know I can make it. And I figured instead of wading through endless links on this forum it would be easier to post. I know what I have to do,just wanted to ask a question about if my wife would be considered a current resident or not. But im glad to see im judged here as an idiot.
I feel that most people must be bitter on this forum.Ive been met with alot of sarcasm mixed with bits of help. Glad Im not like them. Thanks for your reply!
No one thinks that you are an idiot...far from it my friend.
I think alot of forum members are a bit jaded with some new people (not talking about you now), asking the same questions time after time.
...believe me I have locked horns with people here too. I have been MAJORLY pissed off at one person in particular...still Im back.
But hang in there, just as you are doing. You have just crossed the first hurdle.
PS. I was speaking about myself when I was referring to people looking for "easy answers" (I wish it were that easy)

Re: Question about current residents
So, hypocrisy, a bit of follow-up:
Did the move go smoothly?
How quickly did you get your RP?
How long did it take you to find a job?
What's your impression of the assimilation program?
How is your study of Finnish coming along?
What recommendations do you have for other Americans who consider following in your footsteps?

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
