Urgent missed my reapplication time for my passport
Urgent missed my reapplication time for my passport
Hi all
I am currently living in Finland with my cohabitation partner, we have been together for around 7 years and lived together for the last 4.
Last year i got a permit to live in Finland that was valid for a year. But i missed the reapplication time by a day and found out i have to go through
the hole thing one more time. I was given a type A visa (think that is what it is called) and right now my world is falling in around me. I am not to
sure what i can do but i would really love some good news or if someone knows about this kinda situation. The permit they told me to file was the one on
residence permit on the basis of family ties. Altho i am not to sure if it is relacent but we did buy a aprtment here.
Right now i was just really scared as i lost my job bought a month back and am trying to find new work.
As i have gone through this last year i am not to sure on how long this will take and if there is any other way to speed up the process.
If anyone knows exactly what to do then please do contact me with a PM
Tobias

Re: Urgent missed my reapplication time for my passport
OK, calm down. You mention both applying both 'visa' and 'passport', both which are false, and you fail to tell where you live or what is your nationality ('Tobias' sounds German. As you apparently aren't I'll guess you're perhaps American).
If they gave you permit once, they will give it a second time too, but since you did not do a timely renewal the new permit will be again for one year only and not for four years. (Again, you don't mention, but I assume your partner is Finnish). Also your residency time (required for application of a permanent permit and/or citizenship) will start from zero again at the first date validity of the new permit.
Assuming you are of some nationality that does not require a visa (the thing given for more "exotic" tourist for entering the country) you have not been here illegally. You are not supposed to work before you get a permit again and I think your KELA coverage expired as well (meaning buying a private health insurance (from international (non-Finnish) company) would be prudent).
The processing time of residence permits may vary greatly depending on where you live. If you give the city, maybe there is somebody here who has applied in the same place recently and can give a hint. Of course you could have tried to ask that from police station yourself. I guess if you could find a new job, you could try to ask the police if they could speed up your application so you could actually start with it sooner rather than later (no guarantee it will help, but it might).

Re: Urgent missed my reapplication time for my visa
Hi Rip
Yes i am from the US although I was born in Germany but, my mother and father were not married so i was not allowed to have dual citizenship.
You are correct. She is from Helsinki but we are currently living in Vantaa. Thank you for the calm words i am in just a bit of a muddle right now and yes this
is for my visa (the big sticker in my passport)

Re: Urgent missed my reapplication time for my passport
So anybody here who has applied (first permit) in Vantaa 2011-2012, preferably in category "family member of Finnish citizen" from some relatively rich country and with a well documented relationship? How long did it take to get the permit?
OP might know himself how long it took in 2010 except he perhaps applied in Helsinki or possibly abroad.

Visa is for visiting up to three months, RP is for residing: http://www.migri.fi/information_elsewhe ... ng_finlandTobias3d wrote:yes this is for my visa (the big sticker in my passport)
Also you don't need visa with US passport: http://www.formin.fi/public/default.asp ... ture=en-US

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.

Well its the same process every time, "all the papers", you submit it to the local police and it takes... ages. You get an "A" first for one year, then for 4, then you can apply for a "P" that has no end date. So just get your papers together and fill the form. You get the new funky process with fingerprints and all...

Re: Urgent missed my reapplication time for my passport
You missed the time by 'a day' how lazy were you at reapplying? You can reapply a month in advance... we've had threads here about people trying to reapply 6 months in advance for a permanent permit before their initial one is even half way through...

I̶f I can find any way to insult someone, believe me I will.
