Another random blurting from me that serves no purpose other than to satify my curiousity.
I run a VERY successful online graphic design studio. My order books are always overflowing... there is a 2 month wait to hire me.
I have enough work to employ a whole team of designers.
I am always on the lookout for fresh talent to hire.
But here is my bone of contention. I can get a highly skilled polish/romanian freelancer for 10 euros an hour.
I dont have to worry about his taxes or his holiday or anything.
If I choose to employ a finn. I have to worry about 45 days paid holiday each year. And significantly less skill..And a bunch of red tape.
Question. Is there ANY govt funding/incentive for me to employ a finn and cover my losses while they are trained/mentored?
Or indeed.. give me one good reason why I should consider employing a local over a remote worker.
Why employ a finn?
Re: Why employ a finn?
That is also true for Finnish freelancers (maybe not at €10,-)I can get a highly skilled polish/romanian freelancer for 10 euros an hour.

But freelancers have to pay taxes too and they also need a holiday. That will be included in their prices.
Basic question is how much you want to pay to bind the designer to you.
A freelancer will take the work when he can get it. He might not be available the next time you need him.

Re: Why employ a finn?
There is nothing more I would love to do than take on an eager young finnish person who has just left college, with dreams of making a name for themselves.
I could give them a wonderful career.
I got a buddy who owns/runs/involved in (cant say to much about him) social enterprise. He 'runs' a care home.
He is also a multi millionare, and that is all based on hand outs and subsidies from your govt. His wealth.. comes from the public purse.
Its a startling contrast...

Re: Why employ a finn?
So why not go live in Poland or Romania?
Or do you prefer to turn Finland into one of them?
Or you could just keep enjoying the benefits of living in a first-world country without carrying a full share of the responsibilities. Once enough people do that, it turns into choice B above. It takes a while, but that's the transition the United States is undergoing at present.
There's a certain threshold, I don't remember what it's called, where as long as irresponsible and antisocial behavior remain below the threshold, a society can continue to carry the people who suck the benefits without contributing their share to the common good. And there always is a certain percentage of people willing to occupy that niche. Some in that niche live below the line separating criminality from mere irresponsibility and some live above. But the principle isn't so different.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I think Romania would be a good place to live. After all, 90% of their criminals seem to be over here right now.
This wasnt meant to be a moaning post, more of a
"well you would get this assistance"
"You could do this..."
Ya know.. stuff i might not be aware of that could be helpful/useful.
