Free public transportation with child in stroller?
I knew that you could go on the bus in the Helsinki area with a child in a stroller for free, but I was checking YTV's web page to see whether you can use any other transportation for free as well. I found this text at this address http://www.ytv.fi/FIN/liikenne/matkusta ... tkalla.htm
Lastenvaunut
Kyydistä poistuttaessa kädensija on edelleen vaunuun päin. Rattaissa olevat lapset on hyvä kiinnittää rattaiden turvavöillä.
Metrossa paras paikka on sisääntulo-ovea vastapäätä - ei ohjaamon edessä. Uusissa metrojunissa on kahden vaunun välissä tilaa lastenvaunuille.
From reading this, I got the impression that you could also travel for free with a child in a stroller on the tram and Metro. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the super quick reply!
They certainly don't advertize this information, do they?
Even on the train? Heck, I want a refund! All the time I lived in Espoo, I had been paying to ride the train with my daughter. Figures I found this out now that we live in Järvenpääenk wrote:Yes, you can. I regularly take the train from Leppavaara to Helsinki free courtesy of the little rugrat. One of the best gifts of having a child was the chance to spend every day exploring some part Helsinki, Espoo, or Vantaa. I'd just pop on a bus and see where it'd take me! I recommend all new moms get out and enjoy the sites in the cities before the little monsters are walking and demanding.j_kivimaki wrote:Thanks for the super quick reply!

Within greater Helsinki area as shown here, in local transport excluding the 'U' buses an assuming the kids are not older than six years old: Yesmauretto wrote:Hi there!

As a practical point, if you have two strollers going into the bus, there is a relatively high chance that you both will not fit in to the same bus (most have space for only two)

What about all the people who have empty strollers who don't pay anything?
I̶f I can find any way to insult someone, believe me I will.

Getting into a bus without a child inside? I can only hope that at least sometimes they encounter ticket inspectors who look under the hood.

Wow, that's interesting. Is this only for people in Helsinki? In Jyvaskyla does this rule also apply for people with children in strollers?

In Jyväskylä you seem to pay your fare, with strollers or not.justbeinmommy wrote:In Jyvaskyla does this rule also apply for people with children in strollers?

Same in Tampere too, TKL (Tampere city buses) let you on free, through the middle doors of course, if you have a child under 6 (I think it is that age) in a buggy/pram , but usually only 2 prams to a bus, & I have seen mums in tears as the bus arrives, in a big push with about 3 or 4 other mums and prams, to get their lil ones on the bus!
