Hello all,

I think I've heard someone says here once that woman healthcare is free of charge in Finland.
Is it the case also for immigrants without a Kela card?

There are always some fees involved.

I've only been in the public system for back surgery and when I had my child. Both times I only paid for the stays in hospital. I think it was 26€ a day. Everything else to do with both matters was free.

I currently have private health insurance through my employer. I have not had to pay anything whenever I've seen a normal doctor or a specialist. But the problems have had to be related to my work. I also know my employer has cut a lot of the perks we use to get using Mehilainen, but I've come across only one matter in which I would have had to go to the public system to get help with. I ended up not going, so I don't know if I'd have had to pay.

I heard somewhere in the grapevine that breast cancer matters are free for women. I am sure that there are some fees involved. Though breastcancer is in my mother's side of the family, I have been told I will get free breast screenings from the age of 35 because of it. So who knows.

Either way, our taxes pay for healthcare, so in essence, it's not really free at all.

Well you obviously covered by KELA.
I would like to know how much is it cost to go privatly(non-Kela covered) to a gynecologist for a birth controll pills, for examle?

Once I went to a gynocologist with a private company. I saw the bill, even though I didn't have to pay it myself because the matter was affecting my ability to work. If I remember correctly it was somewhere around the 100€ mark for just that one visitation. I also went to another private specialist once, who again, showed me the bill, but again I didn't have to pay it. That was 90€. So if it's a specialist, you are probably looking at 100€+ per visit. And those visits were basic visits, where just an examination was made each time.

That's pretty much for just a perscription.
Is any one here knows a way to get birth control pill perscription and avoid the huge bill? and again, without KELA coveage.

Book a general doctor. Go their. get prescription. Pay around 50 Euros. try aava or diacor.

It would help, if you actually had a healthy realtionship with the woman before entering Finland - besides which - why are you asking this and not her? Does she need to be taken by the social office an made into an independent Finnish woman, so she is not subject to some stupid husband?

I know if we don't go to a general doctor appointment made in Mehiläinen after we've booked it, we have to pay almost 30€.

So maybe a general doctor visit would be about 30-40€ or so?

If it's the pill you want to get, you should really get a referral to a gynocologist who can give more expert advice on the pill. A general doctor will just prescribe something without really knowing much about anything. I don't mean doctors are stupid, clearly they aren't, but the pill isn't something to be taken lightly (the side effects can be horrific if given an unsuitable one), you should really talk to a specialist in the field who knows more about contraceptives.

THE Women: "I do appologise for not being much of an Forum person, since I don't have much time my sweet boyfriend is checking things for me. However, thanks for the truly advise seeing a social worker and become "independend", I'll consider that. But right now I am more concern of continuing taking the same birth controls I take here in finland so I can remain independent and not have to change diapers all day."

Anyway, thanks for the advise. I guess 40-50 eur is decent(even thou still expensive).
