Military training in Santahamina

Post by Fedor1992 » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:00 pm

Hi

The other day I posted this topic in another section on this forum regarding national service in Finland and I appreciate all the feedback I received (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63745)

I just have a few more questions. I have read the varusmies leaflet and as much as I think I understand there were a few things I didn't quite completely get the grasp of. Due to personal and practical reasons I'm looking to stay in the Helsinki/Santahamina area for 12 months without having to move around, if possible.

So I'm wondering if there's a list of all the different types of training I can do in Santahamina for 9/12 months or someone here who has done their national service in Santahamina can give me a few different types of training that last 9/12 months. A few things that have interested me is the MP and becoming a military medic. I've read up about the medic job and am I correct in thinking that training occurs somewhere in and around Lahti?

Any info would be appreciated.

Kiitos! :beer_yum:

Well, I was a MP - we started in Parola, I got the medic training and eventually ended up in the motor pool in Helsinki centre (long gone, the musicians are there still). But as far as army goes - you go where you are ordered. NCO and CO trainings in separate locations as is the medics. After you get "trained" and the red cross or stripes in your arm you can end up anywhere - not in your old crew necessarily. We had one swedish clown from Dragsvik at the motor pool as well.
