When would I have to be fingerprinted? I've had a permanent permit for about 10 years. I suppose when I have to get a new passport, when I get the new permit paper then.

Naah, you get a residence card. new EU rules and all that jive, though as you've been here for so long, why not try thr YKi and apply for a Finnish passport. Getting citizenship looks to have become easier than getting a RP...

I didnt have to prove criminal record too and the document i submitted, was not a compulsary requirment. I did it only for my own mental satisfaction. Cuz in i think last section of application form was about criminal history etc. mean questions were there like, ''have ever been sentenced to punishment, have your ever been suspect in any criminal case etc and do you give us right to obtain your criminal history from your country, and if ''NO'' then why not'' so i just thought that as i am from a high risk non EU country, maybe they WILL obtain my this history from my country. And IF they will obtain that history then method will be, they will contact to embassy for it and request it and embassy then contact ministry of my country and ministry will obtain that paper from my local regional court. And then i thought that if this will happen, then it will take quite long. Im not saying that this is the way how it goes, im saying that i thought that this will be the way cuz im the person who think negative alot, im sorry so i thought that why not i myself obtain that official document and give it to immigration police. so i contacted my brother in my home country. He obtained the document and attested it by ministry of foreign affairsh and sent to me by DHL.

I don't need to reapply for a permit when my passport runs out. I just have to give my passport so they can put the new piece of paper into it.

I don't have any use for Finnish passport. I don't need it. All it does is give me the right to vote for the President if I want to, and since I know nothing about politics, I don't really care. I don't care if that sounds ignorant. It's simply too difficult for me to understand.

There is no piece of paper/sticker/stamp no more. There is - Residence Permit Card, all biodynamic with fingerprints and you need to let a police dog smell your bum for a fart sample, the EU immigration will scratch the card to see if you can enter after sniffing the aeroplane seat. Or so I was told, fingerprints in any case

But I will bend over with my fat bum and let them smell. I have never even had a speeding ticket. Don't know how that's possible with the speed I drive at 5.30 in the morning down the Tampere motorway to work LOL.

Yeah, "card application" is not "permit application" it says on the form also. Basically you can at any time fill in the PDF and go give it along with the pecuniary element to the local donut munchers. The card is valid for 5 years was it - another nice cash cow for the authorities.

I'd say just before your passport runs out and you go to renew it. The old stickers are valid for duration.

You get fingerprinted for passport too. For the moment only 2 fingers instead of 10 though.

Today i met a guy from Australia who also applied for residence permit. He said that a week ago he called police about his application decision and police said the same thing to him that they have ordered his card and he will receive it in few weeks. So he asked the operator that is it decided that he got permit and decision was positive, so operator said that he cant say anything about decision on phone that it is negative or positive but all he can tell that they ordered his card so thats a good sign. So he questioned that if they ordered the card then it means its a positive decision cuz if decision would have been negative then why there was a need of card and operator replied that he still cannot say anything about decision on phone.

So after this conversation, that australian was still worried about decision. I supported him cuz i think same, that if they ordered the card and they said that he will receive it in few weeks then it means he got permit. I really dont know why police can tell that they ordered the card but CANNOT tell that decision was positive! And why they told me that decision was positive! cuz my case was same. they said that they ordered card and i questioned that it means i got permit and operator said YES. i was also talking on phone. to one person they said that decision was positive but to other they said that card is ordered but they cannot say anything about decision on phone. kinda crazy

I was given negative decision by the police too and now the case has been moved to the court. The waiting time can be very long and it's really daunting for me since I have to come back to my home country this December when my RP is already expired. Anybody knows if I can apply for a temporary visa so that I can safely come back to my country and return to Finland afterwards?
