What else I need to do: Kela Card, ID Card

Post by Aegil » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:42 am

Hey,

So I moved here in July last year from the UK (British citizen)

I got permanent work last year. So I registered with Maistratti and got my finnish ID> Tax Card > Bank account. Since then I went to the police station and got a Right of residence and made my ID permanent.

I think I just need a kela card, then to take that to my bank so I can use my internet banking properly on Finnish sites is that right?

With regards to the KELA card, is it a case of just going to kela and filling out a bit of paperwork or do I need to take contracts and such. How long do these usually take? I've had a bit of a look on the sites but just need some advice from people who have done this.
After I have the kela card, where should I go for ID cards so that I have something my bank will accept with finnish ID or will the kela card work for that.

Also, is there anything else that I need to register for or that I should think about. I know I should get employment insurance from an employment fund.

I think KELA wants to see the job contract - "ALL THE PAPERS" doesn't hurt just in case. An ID card will save some stress in the bank, generally a driver's license is accepted as ID, which its not officially, so if someone goes by the book thats a bit of a tiff. Mind you - a foreigners' ID card isn't valid for travel, so don't go on a stint without your passport. The unemployment fund is a very good idea, something like http://en.ytk.fi/ should set you up properly.

Oh, and when you go travelling back to the UK, you should also get the EU health card from KELA once you get your KelaGold ;)
