Looking for work in construction/labouring

Hi everyone,My name is chris im a 31yr male from the uk.I am looking to move to finland in the next few months work dependant that is.My current job in England is a slater/labourer/roofer and i previously had my own business in repointing commercial and domestic properties in England which i know the latter will not help me to well in Finland due to the difference in properties I am looking for labouring work in construction on a building site or anywhere else I also have a lot of experience in painting. Also if there is any small builders out therelooking for workers that is also an exellent option.Well the reason for me moving to finland is my girlfriend lives there and she is a finnish citizen in hameenlinna.The downside is i currently do not speak Finnish yet but have been learning the basics from home.I will be looking for work anywhere from hameenlinna to helsinki.I am a very hard worker,very trustworthy and a good teamplayer,thanks for any replys/help in advance.

you need a temp residence which gives you permission to work.expect that the wages are lower than the UK.

You'll be hard pushed to find work.

Got a friend who is a welder, was out of work for good few month then eventually found a job only for it to last about 3 months then got laid off with the reason that the Estonians are cheaper.

Well, the thing is you need all kinds of certs for certain stuff, and as said, them Estonians are cheaper. If you look at MOL it doesn't look all that huge demand in Hämeenlinna, but that gives you a few temp agencies you can send your CV to. Now if we look at the whole country, theres a few roofies there. Looks like you need to look "up" from Hämeenlinna to Tampere.

So now you just need to figure out what is the difference between an "axeman" and you're all set to go. BTW when you look at those job titles and get dismal of how little "roof" there is...nevermind thatching or what was it you did, slating... imagine if you were a carpet layer

Thanks for the advice guys.Of course i should of said im going to look north of hameenlinna for work also.I have read many things on this site about people who have lived before or currently live in finland and the majority is very negative but i am most certainly taking this on board as good inside information on top of what i allready know.I know that moving to another country with a different language poses very challenging wherever you go.However there is one thing i have often wondered about Finland,how come a country with exellent healthcare,great education,allmost no crime and healthy living can have one of the highest suicide rates in the world Anyway thanks for the advice and i very much look forward to a new challenge in life

You need some escape from the boredom

Actually, the healthcare is crap, the education levels and you graduate to the dole, the crime is all in the upper echelons, and the living is healthy as you can't afford to buy food...

In your line of work, you'd be needing a car. Are you shipping one over? Or - do you own one you're shipping over, as its too late to start swapping the motor to avoid taxes... theres just been a thread on bringing a car vs. diesels.

if you put yourself on the market for 12euro/hr you will find work,can you live with that much?
you will find the work ethics here rather relaxed, so if you are a machine or even 50% machine then it only takes one contact to get the work.
the estonians work cheaper only as a price on the whole job or Sub/part job completion payment, then they can take as long as they want, if they are on an hourly rate they are just like everyone else, and on average will not do more work than the other guys who get more per hour, thats out of principle!!!!!!!

Just mind you if you start "contracting" as your own self, forget everything "how it works in the UK". The Finnish tax office will rip you a new orifice first time you sneeze. Go on a course - they have them listed in the MOL office.

And the reason why Estonians are so cheap - they are "sent workers" with Estonian contributions = zilch. A "Finnish worker" has to pay the Greeks too.

I hear of many "estonians" in the "sent market" wanting to be sent to England if it were possible,even they would choose Sweden or Norway if it was possible because they believe the salaries are higher there.
