Where to buy a good hard bed? [300-500€ range]
Hi there,
I was looking at buying a new bed (not only the mattress, but also the 'legs') and since I have some back problems, I was interested in investing between 300-500€.
I checked a Kodin1 store, but their product offering was quite limited, for such a big store their bed department was awfully small (maybe... 10 beds?). I was wondering if there are specialized stores that only sell beds and/or have a respectable number of them in exposition to try out different kinds.
Cheers,

Jysk, Sotka, Asko, Isku, Ikea, Stemma... see here as well.
Some companies specialize on beds, pillows, mattresses and sleep ergonomics and can possibly even customize their products to suit your personal needs. These include at least Tempur, Unikulma, and Hästens.

A cheapo crap bed can cause back problems.ljl16 wrote: and since I have some back problems, I was interested in investing between 300-500€.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I've already been to all of those furniture stores, and their mattresses are terribly soft. Even the ones that explained to me as "extra hard" were too soft for my taste, and my back. Finns like to sleep soft it seems.
As I also need a bed right now I will check out Ikea as a last ressort, not only are they cheap, but as far as I remember they have harder mattresses, at least in other countries.
@Karhunkoski: not everybody can spend thousands of Euros on a bed.

Care to save some money?
Place boards or plywood underneath the mattress.
A thin mattress with boards underneath it will give you the relief that you seek.

I had that not long ago for some time, and it was not too bad. Better than a soft mattress anyway. But also not too comfortable to sleep on for a longer time, can't replace a good hard mattress.tuulen wrote:Care to save some money?

True, but nobody mentioned thousandswolf80 wrote: @Karhunkoski: not everybody can spend thousands of Euros on a bed.

Which is absolutely true.Karhunkoski wrote:A cheapo crap bed can cause back problems.
In fact I was in the same situation as you about twenty years ago. My bed was awful, it sagged in the middle, offered no support and was really screwing up my back. I scraped together a couple of hundred to buy a new bed. Big mistake, the new bed was no better than the old one, my back was still in bad shape. Bought cheap and bought twice.

So, I finally have a bed, from Ikea, 160x200 cm. Bed costed 80 Euro, the two base things (not sure what they are called) 20 Euro each, and a mattress 160x200 for 200 Euro. The mattress is a simple foam mattress, which turned out to be harder than mattresses with springs. For my taste it is still too soft, but in my price range I can't find anything harder, and it will do the trick for now, especially after sleeping on the couch for 10 nights.
So, in total spent 320 Euro. If you want it delivered Ikea does that for 39 Euro (under 100 kg, my combination would have been in this categorie). If you want exact Ikea models please PM me.

Too late for the OP but someone else searching here might not of heard of Lanterna I was there yesterday, it has all the shops mentioned above, all in one place, there seemed to be a pretty decent selection in at least 3 of those stores and you probably could've found something suitable there.

Not sure if it's too late, OP didn't say he had a bed yet. I do, but i just had the same problem at the same time.MagicJ wrote:Too late for the OP but someone else searching here might not of heard of Lanterna I was there yesterday, it has all the shops mentioned above, all in one place, there seemed to be a pretty decent selection in at least 3 of those stores and you probably could've found something suitable there.

We bought our 160x200 bed frame from Jysk for around €300 around 10 years ago, and have replaced the matresses every 3 or 4 years.wolf80 wrote:So, I finally have a bed, from Ikea, 160x200 cm. Initially I bought two cheapish sprung single matresses ... about €60 each... they didn't last long.
Since then we've gone for the harder foam matress, like most things, the more you can pay, the better.
Last time we bought two 80 x 200 single matresses, thickness 15 cm for €100 each, and then over that a 5 cm thick 160 x 200 top matress, which was around €200.
It's not Hästens or Tempur, but works pretty well for us.
