"Even if you don't have the qualifications, you have an advantage right away for being a native speaker, over some Finn who has his 3 master's degrees which are meaningless because they were free"

WTF? Finland is ranking very high when it comes to education, be it basic or higher education.

At least it is more than working in a bar or being a cleaner (which is NOT what the native English people end up as). Most cleaners and bar people I have come across seem to be from places such as Turkey. In the professional office-based jobs, there are loads of Brits and Americans.
I don't doubt there are computer games companies that employ English speaking foreigners with no Finnish at all, but surely you would need to be more qualified than simply being a native English speaker?

Surely for a computer games job you would be expected to have a degree in Computer Science or at least substantial programming or general IT experience?

Hey, thanks for your feedback! I'm currently in Finland, and I love it :)
However, as tizlit said, my chances of finding work seem to be very slim indeed. I looked on the mol(dot)fi site for jobs in cleaning, kitchen assistance etc., but most of them seem to require a certain level of adequacy in Finnish. So far I can only count to 100 and say a couple of phrases, but not nearly enough to carry even a very basic conversation.
irishinhelsinki's post got me a little excited for a moment, but then my usual pessimism/realism quickly kicked in. :p
Oh well, I'll just keep looking... Problem is that my money is running out like crazy. If I told you how much I have left, you would tell me that I might as well start dumpster diving, haha. Relying on my friend (bf, actually) isn't an option. I do *not* want to be a burden in any way. F***...!
Anyway... wish me (and the hundreds of others that I suspect are in similar situations to mine!) luck.
Thanks again for all your feedback :)

That is because often with menial jobs the foreman speaks only Finnish. The higher your position the more chance your boss/co-workers also speak English.
(and the hundreds of others that I suspect are in similar situations to mine!)
And they are all competing for the same few jobs.

There is no easy answer or guaranteed solution just keep on trying and make sure you have a plan B (and C and D)

Yeap... >.< I thought of adding "But wish me more luck than them" but I thought it would be mean. :D

Kiitos, I need to start working on my plans B, C, D and so on. :/
