Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
Hi,
I live in Finland, hold a self-employed work permit and have my own toiminimi, for the last two years. Now there is a chance that I might get a job in a Finnish company (as an employee), and my question is whether my self-employed permit will allow for this or will I need to ask for a new permit? If so, how long would that take? I called Migri and they had no idea..

Re: Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
IIRC you can change jobs under a work RP as long the job is in the same branch.
I guess this implies also if you change from a tmi to a normal job.

No, it does not imply that since self-employed and employed are different RPs.rinso wrote:IIRC you can change jobs under a work RP as long the job is in the same branch.

Pester them more, if needed at their office.csaavedra wrote:Hi,

They are the ones to decide on that, so someone from them has to know the definite answer.
Re: Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
Thanks for all your replies; but actually no, it's not Migri who makes this decision, since they only take care of migratory issues -- permits for someone already living in Finland is not a migratory issue, but something for the police to decide.
I know I should instead contact the Police but they don't seem to take phone calls and I rather ask here in case someone knows before going to Pasila.

Re: Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
Will you continue your toiminimi work while you are in salaried employment?
Re: Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
"When you have been granted a continuous residence permit (A-permit) for a self-employed person, you are allowed to do some work for another employer during the initial stages of starting your business, while you are not yet making a sufficient living with your business. If you intend to primarily work for another employer, you may not do so with a residence permit for a self-employed person. You must apply for a residence permit for the job in question."

So migri holds all the details , but doesnt make a contact ruling, lol.
I think you need to explore this idea further as the ability to move in and out of job sectors offers greater success for your initial self-employed business plan.
Possibly you might be at the stage where you need to use a very intelligent Lawyer who can guide you to rewrite or manipulate a more perfect work permit for you, considering you have been here 2 years and this example may happen again.
By working for other business's you are not giving up on the initial business plan but are migrating to incorporate greater skills set to continue to grow as a self-employed entrepreneur.
That would be my premise for re-writing.Its money well spent at this stage.

Re: Working as employee while holding a self-employed permit
Thanks a lot! In the end the info was in the migri webpage in the end.
Well, thing is that I only have a toiminimi because the company I currently work for has no establishment in Finland so this way I can invoice them every month, take care of all the duties here, and so on. But if I am to start working for a Finnish company or one with a permanent establishment here, I don't see the benefit to keep the toiminimi going (other than perhaps doing side-work in my spare time, but I think this is unlikely to happen...)
Thank you all!
