How Job Market is now in Finland?

Post by WinterSun » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:43 pm

I have been out of Finland for a year and occationly read Finnish news paper. I just wondering how it look like now in Finnish job market.

In a way, Finland should be pretty better-off compare with many of its European peers in sense of well managed governmental spendings and bank functions. Finland is full of big companies who generate decent amount of tax. Also there is well implemented education and knowledge development system, different inovation fund supply.

In another hand, there are news about big companies are doing lay-off. But per my experience before (I mean before I left Finland), all those reduced head account often end up with similar tasks in same company but different teams. So it is more to "shake up people's mind" than really shake people out.

Though in this Forum there are a lot of discussions about immigrants, but in fact, there are not many immigrants in Finland. Really, just compare Finland with middle east oil rich country, Brits or any other EU counties, there are not many immigrants walk on Helsinki street.

I also wonder about what will be the needed skills after this time IT section reform in Finland. Some discussion mentioned data security skills might be needed. But then what else? some news already said that IT study or IT graduates are not any more appreciated by job market, health care job is not appreciated by many young students, International Business study will never give you a job..etc So I wonder then what to study?

There are organisations in Finland whose main activity is to predict future trends in the economy and invest in those areas. You could take a look at their websites to see which areas they are focusing on:
