First of all, I do not have an autistic child or any experience of autism. But I did move to Finland in 2001 with three small children, the eldest (9yrs old at the time) is dyslexic and we spoke no Finnish at all when we moved here.
Children with "spectrum" disorders are generally accepted into mainstream schools but each case is different and needs to be assessed differently. We struggled to find anyone who could assess our son in English. In the end we clubbed together with two other families and paid for an educational psychologist to fly over to Helsinki for 3 days from London which worked out quite well. But my son received very little support in school, in fact almost none at all. It has been a hell of a battle to get him through school. He is now doing military service in the army. His Finnish has improved but his academic achievements do not, in my opinion, reflect his true abilities.
As far as I know, the "special" schools do not specifically cater for children who do not speak Finnish / Swedish. There are a few mainstream schools that have English streams but getting the right level of English support will not be easy. You could try Tahtiniitty school in Espoo or Postipuu school also in Espoo. I'm not sure about Helsinki.
