Hello, my name is Aleksandr nice to meet you!

This is my first post, so i didnt know exactly where to post it, sorry for this!

First one was when police pulled me over, 2 second ones were for captured with speeding cameras.

I got first ticket 240, and i just has arrived today - ( 19.10.2012 ).

My friends told me, that after 3-rd ticket my driving license will be revoked for 3 or more months?¨

First time i was driving around - 79km/h on 50limit, 2nd - 85-90~km/h on 60limit, 3rd - 55-60~km/hm on 40km/h limit. :beamer:
Thank you in advance.

Drivers who repeatedly violate traffic regulations or display gross negligence regarding traffic safety through an individual act are a major safety risk to themselves and other road users. The police aim to take an increasingly firm stance against such drivers and, for their part, hasten the process of methods taken against them.

The Driving Licence Act states that holders of a driving licence must be banned from driving:

if they have at least four times within two years, or three times within one year, been guilty of the following when driving a motor vehicle:

1) offence under section 103 of the Road Traffic Act, with the exception of fixed-fine offences other than:

a) use of mobile phone while driving prohibited under section 24 a (2) of the Road Traffic Act

b) violation of speeding limit while driving a motor vehicle under section 25 (1,2) of the Road Traffic Act;

2) violation of the road traffic social legislation under section 105 a of the Road Traffic Act;

3) causing a traffic hazard under chapter 23, section 1 of the Criminal Code or flight from the scene of a traffic accident under section 11;

4) vehicle offence under section 96 (1) of the Vehicle Act;

5) violation of provisions concerning the qualifications of drivers laid out in section 24 of the Act on Professional Qualifications of Bus Drivers and Truck Drivers

6) detector equipment violation under section 1 of the Act on Prohibiting the Use of Equipment to Hinder Traffic Surveillance (546/1998);

7) offence during the transport of dangerous goods under section 19 (3) of the Act on Transport of Dangerous Goods (719/1994).

In contrast to subsection 1, holders of a short-term driving licence are banned from driving if they are found guilty of offences under paragraphs 1 to 7 of subsection 1 three times within two years, or twice within one year, of having obtained the short-term driving licence. The same applies to holders of a motorcycle driving licence without a car driving licence within two years of having obtained the motorcycle driving licence.

Driving bans are set by the police. The minimum length of a driving ban is one month and its maximum length is six months.

It seems you drive frequently 50% above the speed limit.
A ban should be issued. And if I read Pursuivants post, it probably will.

Back in the days everyone and their dog needed the license for work and police could let you out with warning instead of ban. Now it is 1 month and tough luck if you drive bus or truck for living.

I suggest when you get your license back you a) slow down and b) learn where the speed camera´s are!
I´ve been here 11yrs and am the first to admit I take a relaxed view to speed limits, (Never to the extent of 50% over the limit!) but have only been caught 3 times in those 11yrs, which suggests you are very unlucky or not very observant when you drive!

Of course, they can only take it away if it's a Finnish license. With foreign licenses I guess you just don't get to drive in Finland.

In other EU-countries they can take your license (also foreign) to the policestation (if such an offense occures) until it is clear what happens with it (I think Finland too). You are not banned from driving in your own country but in a way you are because you have to be able to show your license at any time you drive a vehicle.

Is it not so that if you exceed 30kmph over the limit your licence is taken away, I got caught in Lohja when I was doing 80 then went past a sign with a picture of a town which meant 50. At the time I did not know this and the cops were waiting, 200 euro fine and a ticking off, I pleaded my ignorance, but in hindsight I don't think their camera picked me up well as they could not say what speed I was doing. Best thing is to drive within the limits around the towns as this is where the old bill are likley to be! Or get some of that reflection spray on your plate as a work mate told me! :roll:

I think the driving bans are EU-wide.

In addition to a permit application form, applicants must fill in a form asking whether they already have a driving licence issued by another EU or EEA country, or whether they have been banned from driving in any EU or EEA country.

Yes that is just a juridical/practical thing I think. What is now the question from OP? If they have not taken his license yet then I guess he is ok (except little bit stupid to do it three times). If he got the last one in the mail he should be reading that letter careful I guess.

is there any way this gentleman could have avoided the very first ticket by writing a letter(apology) as he arrived on the very first day? i got a parking ticket i am going to write a apology letter and see if i could avoid the fine. In Australia your first ticket could easily be wiped off if you write to authorities with an apology. how does it goes in Finland. thanking you for any help.

In my opinion you get a laughable punishment for mayor offenses but for small things a letter will not help. Ofcourse if you know someone with power it can be dealed with in the African way.(seeing how much !"#¤% comes up in the last years). But you must have a real good excuse to be speeding, chased by your angry mother in law will not do it.

It seems that the fines in Finland are only issued if you go over 20 km above limit. I heard it many times here from different people. Still do not know if it is true or not. Another rumor is that if you break speed limit for more than 20 km. and an automatic camera gets to see that you only get fined if the next camera on the same road confirms that you have been breaking the speed limit between the two cameras. People has anyone been fined for speeding less tan 20 km. on highway here? Lets see if the rumor is confirmed.
What do you want from me?????
