Resident permit Type A

Post by kiran sharma » Wed Feb 06, 2013 9:21 am

Hello group,
I am non EU student currently residing in Finland since last two years and my status of resident permit (student) type B. I am also working at the same time and i would like to apply for the resident permit on the basis of work before or after completion of my education. I have permanent work contract with one of the Finnish company. The work is not related to my education but others (Cleaning etc.) Is it possible to apply resident permit on the basis of this work? if yes, could you please let me know the requirements for application process. Thank you very much in advance.

If you had graduated and work is full time (don't remember the exact criteria) then you should have no problem (at least getting a permit, not sure about A vs. B). Before graduating, at least I would be disappointed with our unemployment office if they approve work based permits for cleaning jobs.

They do approve even during studies for cleaners. Finland needs cleaners and a master's or bachelor's degree is not going to do any good for a person who they expect to be a cleaner for all his/her life.

I am not 100% sure but I think you need to have a contract with more than 25 hours/week. It's a bit tricky thing because you can't work for more than 25 hours as a student so there shouldn't be any contract for more than 25 hours. But police mostly ignore the rule of 25 hours and just process the application for the change of status.

Just make sure you're advanced enough in studies and don't have much left, so you don't end up in a situation say you're without work and want to renew the permit - you can't go back onto the student permit easy.

I really believe that most things are possible in finland ,given that the Country is about betterment.
But success depends on personal details and work details so i don't think you will get much feed back on what the requirements are.
1 year work contracts continually renewed get permit B, <<<<but how can i guarantee that statement is correct other than the fact that why would they give you a Continuous A permit for only 1 year work contract.
It would seem to be a loophole to exploit.
Ive never considered it before but now that i think of it , every student that wants to stay needs to find the minimum loophole for work if they cant find the desired employment. When i first came here a student who was also working part-time asked me if he could work with me to extend his employment period and therefore qualify for something , but i cant remember exactly what it was other than your story sounded familiar. But ,maybe they changed legislation between then and now.

You need at least two-year contract to get on KELA...
