Sending my old laptop to Finland

Post by Dean1512 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 11:29 am

Hi everyone,
Because my current laptop has some problems so I wanna take my old extra laptop from Vietnam, my own country to Finland.
I wonder how I can send it here. Via normal posti or any different one?

Mostly I wonder about the regulation. Cuz I heard from someone before that if U wanna send something "technical" to Finland, it needs to be a brand new one. Is it true?

You could be subject to a VAT tax, on importing any computer into Finland.

The best move is to throw your old computer away, and to get a new one.

Yeah, that will cost money, but computers can turn into junk, quickly.

So, get a new one!

I sent my son his (used) pc after he moved to Finland and he had no problem.
It went to the local customs posti to be picked up.
To prove it was his computer and not new he offered to power it up to show all his installed data.
The clerk got such a kick out of my packaging and padding he let him know it was very obviously a package from home and not bother to remove it :)
Many times since they have not compelled him to unpack boxes after he opens and they see my odd assortment of filler and care items.
good luck with your laptop... i think the finnish customs experience can be hit-or-miss.

Why do you think they would only allow new electronic items in? To help retailers in finland keep selling laptops? Finland is not singapore or KSA where they are worried about what's on the laptop's hard disk.

The truth is quite the reverse: brand new = customs will charge a lot for the import. something old and used = customs treat it as owned by someone and not a purchase. Even if they did charge for it (and not accept it was already owned by the person collecting it) then the import duty/vat would be a lot lower (since it's not new)
