Sauna tents..any good?

Post by Blatent2ndaccount » Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:19 pm

My "mooki" came with a burnt down sauna.
Ive spent 3 days with a wrecking bar and an axe and I have cleared the footprint.

Now I want a darn sauna!! My body hurts and a sauna would be heaven!

I know the purists will argue there is only one option. A wood log sauna...And that will go up over the course of the summer.

So im left looking at sauna tents. Are they any good? Or a complete waste of money???
Any brands to avoid?

Gimme you opinions if you wouldnt mind.

Thx

Well.. yeah, I mean they work, but the easier way would just to get one of those caravan saunas and put it on the spot... what do they have... tynnyrisauna and the likes... unless you go real old school and do a proper one...

The only tent sauna I ever used was incredibly cold. And I got bitten by ants. But I'm sure they can also be done properly.

(BTW, I've noticed you using "mooki" instead of "mökki" before, and I can't help pronouncing it like a cow's moo in my head every time I read it.)

Hopefully it wasn't right by the water. You did get permit?

As jahasjahas said the power of the stove might become problem, unless the tent has multiple layers to help insulate it. You could do it yourself from tarp or something, but fireproofing, window(s) etc. might be problematic. As it is temporary, I still probably would go for diy solution.

No, im not near a lake or any water (but i do have fishing rights to 3 lakes nearby).

I do like the look of those barrel saunas. I didnt concider any type of trailer sauna..I will take a gander on tori.
But my head tells..2k ("and the rest mate" i hear you cry).

Been looking at this, 700 euros...

Maybe you could buy/build a light, movable, temporary storage shed and just equip it with a sauna stove and rudimentary benches of your own design, for the time being?

Some examples of prices:

http://www.hyvankaupanpaikka.fi/www/ulk ... rasto.html
http://www.wood-group.fi/tuotesivut/lau ... rasto.html
http://www.wood-group.fi/tuotesivut/lau ... avaja.html

(The same sites also sell actual sauna cabins but they’re more expensive.)

Once you no longer need your temporary sauna, you could convert it back to a storage shed. Or even move it someplace else, or sell it.

And if one gets proper stove you can just use it in the sauna proper.

If the sauna-to-be-rebuilt in the main building is much larger, a suitable stove for it could be too powerful for a small shed, though... so better be careful and only heat it up in moderation. Also, you need to use proper heat shields, safety distances and whatever usual precautions there are even in a temporary sauna so you don’t end up burning down that one, too. And you also need to figure out a drain system and means of ventilation so as not to get mold, rot and stuff. But I guess that goes without saying.
