American Breakfast... Anywhere?
Re: American Breakfast... Anywhere?
I guess that hotel Kämp has a pretty good buffet - popular for working breakfasts.
for something sensible, try tin-tin-tango

The weekend brunch at Pacifico also has a pretty good selection of non-sweet cooked stuff.

The grits will be tough to find, but you can substitute polenta for grits. Not quite the same but close enough. And make your own breakfast sausage as they don't have American style breakfast sausage. At least you can get maple syrup.Sleepstream wrote:Maybe all of the Americans can get together and have a big American breakfast.
Lots of eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, pancakes, and grits.
You have been on that island too long.Ok, so is a "biscuit" more of a crumpet or a scone then?
**** that and **** you

Well, it’s a piece of imported Americana in a foreign country, marketed to the locals — what did you expect? At least I got the sense they’re trying... which is more than what can be said about some others with their hands in the same cookie jar.misu wrote:Hehe...if they have to call themselves Classic American Diner then they most likely aren't.Jukka Aho wrote:“Classic American Diner

I think the American Diner in Tampere is great. And I am an american. Their burgers are the best in all of Finland in my opinion and I make it a point to go there every time I am in Tamere (too bad its only a few times a year). I have had their breakfasts years and years ago when I lived there and they were good too, not as good as their burgers but not bad either.Jukka Aho wrote:Well, it’s a piece of imported Americana in a foreign country, marketed to the locals — what did you expect? I think they do a fine job living up to that name in Finland.

Good to see a positive comment, so thank you. I am not American and wouldn't know if this is anything like the "real thing" but maybe I will try them. I am often in Tampere but have never yet been in the place.jas_rho wrote:I think the American Diner in Tampere is great.

Lauren,
If you are suffering from severe homesickness you have two choices: go back to the U.S., or make your own biscuits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... OXNFnaObh0
There is a third option: open your own American Breakfast Café.

It's similar, but lighter. Why the USA uses an old English (French origins) word is a puzzle, as the biscuit is crunchy, due to the nature of its baking.Pursuivant wrote:Ok, so is a "biscuit" more of a crumpet or a scone then?

ABC Delis have Breakfast All Day: http://www.delit.fi/syomaan000.html
I haven't tried it, so I cannot say how good they are, but at least they say they have eggs, bacon, american style pancakes with syrup.
Never seen any sweet pastries here at breakfast. I've had that in US (cheap) hotels, though... was quite a surprise the first time ("viineri" as breakfast... wtf???).

I'm not seeing any mention of "hash-browns" included in an American breakfast. Two eggs "over medium", fried ham, hash-browns and sourdough toast. YUM!!
