how to deal with noisy neighbours?

Post by Heefa » Mon Apr 01, 2013 5:10 pm

so here's the story

neighbours on floor above me, the guy thinks he is a rapper... this would be hilarious if you didn't have to live underneath him. everyday ridiculous shouting, loud bass, etc thumping through my living room floor. also he "raps" on the balcony and usually gets drunk a lot and shouts. and then there is the bathroom antics which i would rather not confront them about. i think they're about early 20's age-wise

have asked him to be quiet numerous times, hit the ceiling with a brush handle, called our landlord a few times now and still nothing.

here's the thing, for the most part i don't actually mind people making noise around me, my other neighbours through the wall have 2 young kids, it just seems that this guy upstairs doesn't understand how loud he is being. i now take refuge in my bedroom to avoid listening to this noise, wearing headphones whenever i'm sitting about in my apartment.
what is my next step? what do i do now? i don't want to have to move because this apartment was newly renovated before myself and my partner moved in

Have you asked your neighbors if the guy is disturbing them? if so, all of you could make a written complaint to your landlord. If he is making a lot of noise at night time and you want to escalate the situation, then you could call the police.

i think it is just us really that have the problem with him. the apartments next to me and him on the same side are empty. sadly he is clever enough after the first letter from the landlord to keep this racket up during the day only. i'd honestly love to call the police but it would probably just be a waste of their time seeing as it is daytime.
our landlord has phoning times once a week, which we phoned during. then they ask us to write an email. i think we've went through this process about 3 times now since last october. it stops for a week or so, then starts again, getting gradually louder each day. i don't think he realises his apartment is not a soundproofed recording studio : P

Get some good recording equipment and put it up near the ceiling. When he's at his loudest, RECORD!

Then send it via email to your landlord.

Good to have proof. The landlord might not be effective enough because they could think you are just a complainer. But if you have proof.......

It is some city or company owned house where all of you are tenants of the same landlord? At least in other cases you would complain to the house manager (isännöitsijä), not your landlord.

leave this playing outloud with full bass when you're not at home.

Anyone stupid enough can be a rapper these days. The good days of good music are long gone :?

Yeah. Back then you had to sell dope and shoot someone to be a rapper. Or was it shoot dope and sell someone..?

edit. and to stay on topic I'll give few words to op: during daytime your chances of silencing the rapper are slim, unless he really blasts the music. Call cops if you think so. During night time... call cops. You don't need recordings when you get few cops to testify, with paper trail, in eviction trial.

Naah, now we know why the rappers got shot. People got tired to tell them to STFU...

And it is such an artistic, womenfriendly, welldressed, law obeying, good development of certain races etc. form of expression.

hehe leaving trololo playing would certainly be entertaining but i don't wanna stoop to the same level. i was also debating hitting my ceiling off-beat to spoil his precious rhymes and put him off. i've tried recording stuff on my phone before and got a couple barely audible things. i genuinely think he thinks it's the ghetto here. silly
