residence permit
residence permit
Hi, I have been working in Finland for 8 years and my residence permit expires May 4, 2013. I have had full time work for the whole time here but my work contract is being seen by police as not acceptable as apparently it is missing some things according to finnish law. According to my employer the work contract should be valid but police say I need new contract. Employer is a bit lazy in actually writing a new contract as they seem to think that I'm some kind of permanent foreign guy who has been hanging around for a long time and I can't be removed from the country.
What will be the situation should my residence permit expire and yet I'm still working for the same company I moved here 8 years ago to work for. I am non EU, a Canadian citizen to be exact. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to figure out if I should be putting my house up for sale because I'm about to get the boot, or if this is a non issue and my employer just needs a big boot in the a__ for being so lazy on the issue. I would say we have had about 10 conversations about the topic and another 10 emails exchanged so it has been spoken about. I have covered my bases and have been offered work in both Norway and Switzerland but I'm getting old and lazy myself and moving just seems like a huge hassle.

Re: residence permit
If your extension is refused, you can appeal and remain in Finland until the appeal is concluded.
A refusal shoud be enough to show your employer it is serious.

Re: residence permit
Thanks rinso, never thought of that.
Re: residence permit
You haven't been eligible for permanent ('P') permit yet?
Anyway, apply for the extension in time, even if you fail to get the co-operation from your employer you should.

Re: residence permit
No unfortunately my contract has always limited me to a B permit according to the police, except for one year I had an A permit. I know you would think after 8 years living in Finland you would be permanent, but 6.5 on a B and 1 on an A at the moment.Rip wrote:You haven't been eligible for permanent ('P') permit yet?

Re: residence permit
I know exactly what's missing, I even gave them a copy of a contract from the union they could use. They just need to put the salary number in and sign.cors187 wrote:look through that checklist and determine whats missing.mumboman wrote:Hi, I have been working in Finland for 8 years and my residence permit expires May 4, 2013. Re: residence permit
Your employer treats you that way, and you have other options elsewhere.
If you really like your employer, tell them what you need and until a deadline pretty soon. And if they fail to deliver quit the job.

Stop being a foreigner and saying 'could I please' - be a Finn and say 'vittusaatanaperkele NYT HETI'

Re: residence permit
I think you have to make a new contract with your boss. Maybe you could ask your other friends who are working here quite long time.
Hope you can solve this problem.
