Where to buy corn syrup and self-raising flour?

Post by Amandine.K » Mon Apr 15, 2013 2:19 pm

Hi,

I would need corn syrup and self-raising flour for some art project I have for work. Any idea where I could get it from, preferably in Helsinki or Vantaa?

Thanks!

Fake blood?

I found several discussions where people mention buying corn syrup at Behnford's, but I couldn't find it on their website currently. As for self-raising flour, can't you just mix flour, baking powder and salt? (Although I don't think the salt matters if you're not going to eat/drink the result...)

No, corn syrup painting ;)

Behnford's usually has but is out of stock so if you know where to get some I'll be happy to know.

Self-raising flour. I thought about mixing it but no idea if I will get the expected results and what the proportions of flour/raising powder should be...

Citymarket in IsoOmena, Espoo, had at least recently Karo light corn syrup in their "US-shelf", but I would assume other CM:s have it too if they have it still in stock. BTW, they also had Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips... just don't look at the price, or you won't be making chocolate chip cookies!

For making self-raising flour just google for it, there are lots of recipes online.

Edit: CM still had it. You can also, depending on what properties you need, substitute other ingredients for the corn syrup, for instance liquid glucose (available from pharmacies). This page has btw also a recipe for self raising flour: http://www.joyofbaking.com/IngredientSubstitution.html

Does it have to be corn syrup? Could you use Lyles Golden syrup instead?

I buy my self raising flour (in bulk  ) from amazon.co.uk - I also get condensed milk, pot noodles (kids love them!), CADBURY'S chocolate, bisto gravy granules ... You know ... the necessary things to aid survival :D

Normally you can buy singles, but that can work out expensive. I have even bought a microwave and boxes of Huggies baby wipes (10 packs for £10) - and everything is delivered to my door! Great for christmas presents too!

The order has to be over £25 and all items must be marked 'Eligible for free super saver delivery' - and not 'fulfilled by Amazon'.
