Searching for a job as live out nanny in Helsinki
Searching for a job as live out nanny in Helsinki
Dear family,
I'm Delia, a 21 years old girl, deeply in love with literature (I'm a writer) and music.
I love kids, animals, love singing and have been studying acting for a while, I also like drawing, so I could make your children learn and have fun.
I'm not a chef, but I can cook.
On the end of 2011 I visited this country for the first time and it catched my soul, so I decided to move here.
I speak Italian, English, a bit of Spanish and I'm starting to learn Finnish.
I'm searching for a job as a live out nanny in Helsinki. I have good manners but also a good sense of humor. I'm honest, trustworthy and pacient.
I would like to find an open-minded family, with no prejudices, who can accept the fact that I'm a vegetarian (I have no problems with people who eat meat, but I don't cook it).
I have previous experience as an au pair (I've been taking care of three little kids, the youngest one was 1 year and a half and the oldest one was 8 years old), as a nanny and as a cleaner, so of course you can ask for references.
Hope to find you soon!
Delia

Re: Searching for a job as live out nanny in Helsinki
I found a job but that's for one month only (after that the kid will have a place in the kindergarden), so I'm still searching for a job, starting after 9th February.

So you lie and then want "open minded" people...Delia wrote: litterature

You have huge prejudice about meat and you call yourself open minded, please...

Nothing wrong with eating less or no meat. Saw that documentary of that Finnish gentleman who was blind (did more then most people of his age who can see) and vegetarian, just did not make it to 100 years old (99) (http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_Venninen). The world would be improved if we eat less meat (and reproduce less:-(), so we need less food)

Irrespective of what one thinks about eating meat or not, I think OP is going to have a really hard time finding a family that meets her needs. Maybe she should try some population that is not so much meat-eating? Maybe go to Stockholm instead?

Re: Searching for a job as live out nanny in Helsinki
I would like to remind you that the reason why I opened this topic is the fact that I'm searching for a job as a nanny, not to discuss about my being vegetarian.
Onkko, I'd like you to notice two things: first of all you quoted random parts of my message, as a second thing you call "prejudice" a simple choice I made. Most of important people in my life eat meat; there was nothing aggressive in what I wrote, so please stop flaming.
I've been working for families who eat A LOT of meat and we've never had problems because we respected each other. I wrote that information just because parents have to know that they can count on me to prepare food, but just not including meat and fish.
Interleukin, thank you for the suggestion, but I live in Finland since 8 months, I love Helsinki, I'm not willing to move from here, and anyway I don't think that this is a real problem.

P.S. "Literature". I'm pretty sure that it never happened to you to misspell a word.
And "Pacient" is an old form of the word.

Wow, you really got on the defensive quickly little girl. I'm amazed you've lasted this long in Finland.

Interleukin, there was nothing ironic in the part of the message I wrote for you, I honestly meant what I wrote. I'm just trying to explain myself in a polite way.
What's wrong with this forum today?
I say that I'm a vegetarian and I'm accused of prejudice; I say that I love Finland and I want to stay and you call me "little girl".
I'm searching for a job, not for fights.

Re: Searching for a job as live out nanny in Helsinki
But interleukin is right.....
You say you are open minded and don't mind working for a family who eats meat, and you would happily cook. But you won't cook meat for them.
How else are people suppose to take in what you wrote?
So, you find a family who eats meat, which you have no problems with and they ask you to cook them some meatballs and potatoes for the childrens' dinner. What are you going to do? Tell them you can watch them eat meat, but you won't be cooking it for them?
Don't you see what you've written?

I agree, although it restricts her options, that is her choice.
This forum it seems is used as a vehicle for some rather frustrated people to hide behind their computer's and say what they can't face to face in every day life. Rubbish:(
Good luck Delia, maybe trying an English speaking kindergarden or preschool would suit you a bit better: http://www.expat-finland.com/living_in_ ... ation.html

Good luck, Delia! I'm almost incredulous of the replies you received. I went back to read your original post and it's unbelievable for you to get "trashed" over that. That must be the toxic power of the internet offered anonymity in combination with human behavior.
All the best,
