Contraceptives and Kela

is vasectomy, contraceptive implant, birth pills, etc covered by kela? The pills might not be covered so how about the ones which require minor surgery like vasectomy and implants?

You don't get aid from Kela to contraceptives. You may get aid if said contraceptives are needed for some other reason.

In Britain we had places called Family Planning Clinics where they would dispense free condoms to people who went and they also arranged the hormone injection, I think they recieved funding but you wouldn't have said the job centre or council were giving you free condoms! lol

So maybe there are similar agencys or organisations in Finland that do the same job

Sorry I cant be of much use :) Best of luck!

For what I know, they are not. Of course, if you get your vasectomy on public health care, it is quite cheap (~100€) compared to private sector pricing (~700€). :)

Young people can get free contraceptives, but it seems to depend on your municipality. It at least used to be that the first year of contraceptive pills were free, but it seems like it isn't so anymore (I only did a fast Google, I might have missed it).

And women the age of 35 and over can get their tubes tied for free. Ok, of course the hospital stay costs money, what 30€ a day or something.

I think in fact at any time it could be done for free, but it's up the officials to approve the procedure or not. Haven't you ever seen that 'Special Mums' show on Ava? There was some woman who had 4-5 kids. She was about 25 years old. She asked them to please tie her tubes after the last baby, but they refused to do it because she was young and might want more kids. This woman had her first child as a teenager herself. Her and her husband or whatever he was, they were the pure trash of the social system. F*cking dumb. Popping out baby after baby. Both unemployed. Use a freaking condom and pill or something I was yelling at the telly when it was on LOL.

I would assume if a woman can get this done, then the same goes for men.

Thanks guys for the information.

I was interested if there's any official word on kela on their website (at least I couldn't find it), like British NHS have it clearly written on their webpages. Guess, I will just call Helsinki Health Service for information for an official word :lightbulb:
