Mooring in Espoo/ Helsinki

Post by Huy » Thu May 16, 2013 9:05 pm

Heippa all.

Does anyone know what kind of prices a slip would cost for a 28' motorboat?

No winter storage, as she would be in our yard when out of the water. Just need a place for the summer with shorepower as a minimum.

Was thinking of investing in a boat and would like to see how much cost would be.

Chime in if you got some info, tips or general good to know stuff.

I seem to remember that the municipal moorings are not expensive. And then the private clubs are probably VERy expensive as they would require membership etc etc.

Of course there are loooooong waiting lists for municipal moorings but it is probably worth putting your name on the list even if you don't have a boat yet.

Anywhere in Espoo or Helsinki would be a good place.

A municipal mooring is unlikely to have shore power.
Are you resident in Helsinki or Espoo? the municipal moorings are generally cheaper for the municipals residents,
Have no idea of the rates in Helsinki/Espoo, but we paid about 260 Euros per season on Lohja lake,
In Inkoo the cost was much higher, about 500 euros per year, but only 60 euros a year if you were a resident!

Forget about saving money with a boat. The definition of a boat: an expensive hole in the water!

I admit, the wording "investing" that I used, is not entirely correct.
I do realize a boat won't help me save up any money, and that is not why I want one.
I am buying one because I always wanted one.
Now, after I got the house, cars, motorbikes, family, kids etc etc, it is time to get a boat.
Summer is here. I love the sea. I love boats. I love the marinalife. And I can afford it.
If it turns out it is not what I had in mind, well, I can sell it again with loss, or keep it in the yard. No problem, no headache.
And if I do keep it, then I can tinker with it with friends, family and whatnot, on water or on land.

But yes, a hole that will suck my wallet dry, she will be, but I will be smiling all the time. :)

Good for you, and I wish you the best of success! You have the right approach and the right attitude. ;-)

The only inexpensive boat is one that can be picked up by hand and carried, like a canoe or a kayak.

Without joining a club, you can forget getting the mooring at Helsinki if you live in Espoo and vice versa. Also I'd guess that this season is already done. But it doesn't hurt to give them a call or email them. In Espoo you are looking at ~300 and upward, depending on the width of the boat.

The happiest two days in the life of a boat owner: (1) the day you buy it (2) the day you sell it  8)
