Hi all,
- Which brands and makes of cars have a higher rate of depreciation (i.e. lose their value faster) in Finland?
- What about maintenance costs, which ones are cheaper to maintain?
Any general comparisons? Perhaps, the questions are a bit subjective, but is there any data?
Any advice?
Thanks.
Kind regards.
cars and makes, depreciation in value, ease of maintenance.

Tekniikan maailma magazine does have that kind of information. In Finnish of course. But numbers are numbers, so to the library I suggest.rupun wrote:Hi all,

Have a look here (in Finnish):
http://www.ajovalo.net/Arvo1.htm
Don't think it's completely up to date but it's still useful.

Thanks Zax!
Yes, I checked the other magazines as well, but they don't give you an clear idea about the depreciation! They only seem to compare a few models! I am more interested in the market value (retention of value).
The link does give a brief view. Honda Civic doesn't seem to retain its value well, and Mitsubishi is a commoner (neither in the good lists, nor the bad). Skoda seems to have scored pretty well for itself!
I was thinking Mitsubishi Outlander (fed-up of the snow!)
but at 48K, and if ain't gonna keep its value!
No thanks!
PS: posted later: Darn, who to believe, the earlier link stated Kia does not retain its value, HS says just the opposite!
Kind regards.

TM publishes yearly (or twice?) a leaflet that has a crapload of cars and their values with one or more typical yearly km. Should be available from library.
edit. 9/2013 has that leaflet.

I guess it all comes down to how long you want to keep the car and if you're buying it with your head or with... other parts
Skoda may depreciate more slowly but only has a two year warranty. They also tend to be pretty average reliability wise (http://www.iltasanomat.fi/autot/art-1288547953887.html). Of course if you get rid after two years it's somebody else's risk, so no worries!
I kept my previous car for 9 years so depreciation isn't a big issue for me, and I based the following car's purchase on the same logic...
