If you're still within the period they allowed for repairs, no problem.
If not, start emptying the piggy bank.

I got caught going on KEHÄ 3 one day. I was going 93 km/hr in a 80km zone. Completely my fault, but since I rarely drive on that road and it was peak hour, I didn't realise the speed limit had gone down from 100 to 80. The camera was right after the change in speed. That camera was flashing like there was no tomorrow LOL.

Anyway, I got a 70€ fine for that.

I was told by a Fin the maximum amount a speed camera like the ones that are permanently stuck by the road can charge is 120€. I don't know if that's true. But since I was going 13km over the speed limit, 70€ isn't all that bad.

The most some guy was told to pay was something like 2 million euros. But he took it to court and got it down to about 100,000€ because his income had gone down so much. Obviously still a rich bastard if the fine was that high. And obviously caught by the cops, themselves, not a machine. I read online once.

My father-in-law was travelling 5 kmph above the limit and he just got a warning letter without a fine. It dependsds on how much above the speeding limit you were going and also on your income.

Income only comes into play if caught by the cops themselves, so I've been told.

Just so anyone won't get any ideas: radar jammers are illegal and speed cameras work by inductive loops embedded into the road.

I think you will find obvious cuts in the road surface where the inductive loops are installed. No laser or radar.
On the other hand if you drive on the other side of the road at this point then you do not pass over the loop - you can often see on early mornings the tire marks of others who have done this.

How does such a thing get the information about the car? The license plate, to fine the person?

And should there still be some warning on the side of the road that there is a speed catching device in the area? Like they do with speed cameras?

I wonder if they have them or are going to install them on the motorway to Tampere? There isn't a single camera on that road from at least from Haaga to god knows where..... At least not to Hämeenlinna (as far as I've gone on that road).

They start with the plate of course. As speeding is an offense committed by the driver, not by the owner, so they need a photo that shows the face too.

I really do not think there is any legal requirement for such.

I think you are referring to the fine for Nokia boss in 2002.

And urban legend like the actual facts seem to have been(*) embellished quite a lot. Vanjoki's original fines were of the order of 100 000 euros, the final only about 6000.

(*) He might refer to some other case, but I doubt he can show any case with even nearly that high fines.

You can try how much you need to earn to get 1M fines for speeding by trying out the link I provided earlier. 25 over speed limit of 60 and over is 14 dayfines, +2 dayfines for every 3km/h on top of that.
