Names of good disinfectants ?

Post by Samer2010 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 1:31 pm

Hi Forum,

A few days ago, I threw a party for my brother and some friends came over with their pets (Dogs & Cats).

I now want to clean the house properly especially from any possible germs/bacteria/microbes because of the animals.

So, I would really appreciate if you recommend any disinfectants brands that I could buy from the stores ?

In such case, Where I come from I would buy DETTOL cleaner e.g. (http://www.dettol.co.uk/products-for-yo ... se-cleaner). BUT, I have NEVER seen any DETTOL products in Finland apart from the Hand Wash.

Anyhow, The idea isn't about DETTOL. I am just looking for a good disinfectant that kills germs/bacteria/microbes, and available in the local stores.

Thanks !

CIF is a cleaner here.

That's a normal type of cleaner we use to clean floors etc. Or Mänty soap is used for a lot of cleaning here. Havu Mäntysuopa. Comes in a bar of soap, a bottle etc. It's very common and must work because people have been using it for a billion years.

You could use vinegar mixed with water if you want to be organic about it. Or don't dilute it and put it in a spray bottle and spray it directly onto what you want to clean. It kills germs and bacteria. A lot of people who own rabbits and other animals use it to clean. Because it is very good.

Or.... I found this (so you don't really need to go overboard, just some old fashioned soap and warm water will work):

When it comes to cleaning house we need to remember to keep it simple, says Professor Peter Collignon, an infectious diseases physician at the Australian National University's Medical School.

Rather than concentrating on disinfecting or killing the bugs, we should focus on cleaning with hot soapy water and good old-fashioned elbow grease to physically scrub away organic material.

"You've got to clean the surface first and that's usually enough. Then you have to ask yourself whether you need to disinfect at all," he says.

"For the kitchen sink, for example, you probably don't need anything except cleaning."

I once (ONCE!) found Dettol spray in an Oriental Shop (Hämeenkatu, Tampere - not sure where you're from). Should have bought at least few bottles as it's not available any more :(
