Residence permit registration

Post by Desert Skippers » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:18 am

I came to Finland getting to three months from Italy(with an Italian visa) and now I have a job with a contract,do I have to register for a permit of stay to continue working after my three months of stay in Finland or can I just consider working without a permit of stay registration? and if I have to register, where and how can I do the registration???
Is there anyone there to help? I will be glad if you could help clarify this for me now, thanks

If you are a non-EU citizen, then it was already illegal that you started working during your first 3 months stay in Finland.

As a non-EU citizen, you have to apply for and receive a Finnish Residence permit before you are allowed to start working.

You have an Italian residence permit (I hope it is a residence permit not a visa and that it is still valid)? You need a Finnish residence permit, and really should have applied while outside Finland. You can nevertheless submit your application to the local police:

Your employer will get a hefty fine employing a non-EU without the proper paperwork. Your Italian visa is only good for Italy, you can visit as a toirist in Schengen area, but not take up work. The only exception would be maybe teachers, atletes and some other special professions, an if you come work as a specialist - but that application needs to be submitted immediately when you get the contract.

I don't think the tax office has anything to do with immigration. I think just because you got a tax card, doesn't mean you are allowed to be working here. Because I am not sure it's their job or if they are even allowed to check if you can or can't be working.

If you only have a permit to live in Italy, you don't have Italian citizenship, then you are working illegally here in Finland. And when you are caught, you will be kicked out of the country and your employer probably slapped with a huge fine. I have a permanent resident permit to live in Finland which lets me work here, based on Family ties. If I went to England it doesn't mean I can just live and work there. Same rule applies to your situation.

Your English is a bit poor, so it's bit difficult to really understand you.

I think you need to visit either the immigration office or the police and do it sooner rather than later.

Not only is this not true (I can understand them perfectly, so it might be your comprehension which is a bit poor), why mention it? What do you gain from attacking his/her level of English?

If he is a specialist then he has not done anything illegal. Specialists can work up to three months without a permit.
A foreign specialist is entitled to work in Finland for up to three months without a residence permit

if you are an interpreter, a teacher, a specialist, or a sports judge or referee, you work on the basis of an invitation or a contract, and the duration of the job is no longer than three months
So even if he would be considered a specialist (which is unclear since he didn't mention his qualifications or what job he has), what he did was illegal.

A tax card is not a residence permit (or a work permit). (Although I find it a little strange that you can get one as a non EU without being registered in Finland. Are you sure you give us all the information?)

The OP came to Finland to search for a job, and after some time of searching (during the 3 months - and he is not allowed to stay in Finland for more than 3 months) he got a job.

This guy was not even aware that he would need a new RP in Finland, and likely neither was his employer. That makes your assumptions like he might have initially been given a 3 month contract pretty pointless.

I was not attacking the guy.

Plenty of people have mentioned in plenty of posts on this site when they feel the language written by the poster is unclear.

You can see by other people's posts, not everyone else is clear about what the guy was asking either.

Bla... I am not going to argue with you about it. Waste of my time.
