Unemployment benefit for my wife

Post by ziddiguy » Mon Jun 17, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi,

I have been on assignment in finland for last 2 years on B type visa and now I got a contractual job in IT in a Finnish company i.e. for 6 months, my wife is also living with me in finland.

I am from non EU, i would like to know if my wife is eligible for Unemployment benefits from kela from day 1 of my job or she needs to do some vocational training first to be eligible.

Many Thanks

Why would she get unemployment benefits if she hasn't worked? She might get onto an integration course, but if under 25 if you have no schooling you can't get even labor subsidy.

Why would she get labor subsidy at all, no matter the age?

As far as I understand it, she would be a non-EU family member of a non-EU citizen who is only temporarily residing in Finland.

Well, to get the Residence Permit, you promised to support your wife, so they will take that money 700 out of your bank account and put it onto hers.

Why dont you go to the closest unemployment office and ask directly there? You can try to register her and see if it works out or not. There is much more than EU x non-EU. Just ask there.
